...and it won't seem weird to go into a cubicle and make no noise?

It doesn't really matter in my opinion, except I reckon it's easier to just walk in, stand up and pee then walk out after flushing instead of having to sit down etc etc. But then you occassionally miss which is a pain in the ass.

And if anyone said you weren't a man for standing up to pee, you tell them you have a back problem and rub it in so they feel bad for insulting you about it in the first place.

Having a penis and being of the proper age suffices, I think.

Depends how you broke your back. If it was bear wrestling, a dirt bike crash or pushing a child out of the path of an oncoming vehicle you actual gain man points.

Oh, and I pee standing up but I'm STILL not considered a man by many people's standards. Just look at my avatar for example.
Made my day with that one, chap.

OP: don't worry about such matters. It really doesn't matter.

This is gonna be a weird question, but I got a reason for asking.

Now, we all know that we guys have one huge advantage over the fairer sex. We can pee standing up. This fact seems to be very important for a lot of guys, and it seems you must do this to even be considered a man. Throughout media you can always identify a man by the fact that he pee standing up. Numerous movies where some bloke is masquerading as a female has him being caught because he does this. And several shows and movies speak of men sitting down to pee as something bad.

Here comes my question: Do you have to stand and pee to be considered a man?

You see, I cannot do that. I broke my back in 2006. Even though I can walk and function like every other guy, I have found out that I am unable to control certain things as well as before. If I where to stand and pee I would have to find a mop. If I am outdoors that isn't an issue, but I am rarely outdoors. So I have to sit to pee now. Would people see me as a lesser man for that? Does anyone sit instead just because it is more comfortable? Hey, standing up is easy (or, was easy), but it sure is comfortable to sit.

Anyway. I know it is a weird question, and probably not that relevant. But I would like to see what you guys and gals think.
Naa, its cool - Your seriously injured and still here to talk about it - thats makes you even more of a man.

boys hope one day to run and jump, play sports and kick ass in a fight - real men can remember when they could - make of that little wisdom what you will.

I was piss drunk and fell off a porch. About seven meters down. Is that manly? >_>
(FYI, I don't drink anymore :p )

Yeah... not sure how manly my injury was (read above), but still.

Being able to piss standing up, especially when their are other people around to see how good you are at it, is one of the better things about being man. This is true. You just have to learn how to appreciate what you still have and can still do.

wtf? lol, peeing has nothing to do with it, you've got a penis correct?

Now I don't know how many guys come in to your toilet and test you, but tell them to screw off. =/ a broken back? sucks for you but that shouldn't matter (as the reason). Did someone comment about your inability to perform vertically in the toilet?

For the record, I don't think that having a Y chromosome or a working penis should be requirements for being seen as male. Give those female to male transgendered people a break, you insensitive clods.

Wow, so now you neither have to be manly nor have a penis to call yourself a man?
Damn, our sex has gotten a hell less exclusive.
Considering that the male only club includes billions of insects it was never really that exclusive.

No, but it just seems like standing up is the only way to go. That is the way it is shown in media. One example from the top of my head, which I don't remember much of so it's a bad example: In Friends, they ridiculed someone who sat while peeing. This makes it seem like sitting is a no-no for guys, since we can stand.
Stupid, I know, and it doesn't matter at all. I was just curious what other people thought.

Okay here is my response *deep breath* ... *deeper breath* ... The main thing is that it isn't manly to stand up to pee it is just considered unmanly to sit down to pee cause it shows a consideration for those who will use the toilet next (basically if you live with someone you might sit down so you don't miss and the 'lady friend' doesn't see pee when she next comes in) and sitting down for comfort (you are obviously exempt because of the fact that you broke your back (calling you unmanly for it would be like calling an old guy soft because he needs a walking stick)) basically says that you aren't tough and rugged and that you care about womanly things like comfortability. So don't worry mate you aren't unmanly for peeing sitting down, it really depends on your motivation for doing so.

Funny you say that, does that mean i'm not the only one who does philosophy whilst on the toilet? XD
That's where I do some of mine, the rest in the pub.

You don't have to pee standing up to be a man. I pee sitting down whenever I'm having a "joint session" with my toilet.

Sometimes, when I'm taking a crap I'll be like "Oh I need to pee" but I'll be in the middle of taking crap so I'll be like "Oh I'm taking a crap" so I can either wait it out and bust my balls or I can just go sitting down. Being the unholy burgeon of bodily impatience I normally just angle myself and pee downwards while all the poos coming out (God this post has more potty humour than an Adam Sandler movie, but I do like his work...) so I don't really think you have to pee standing up to be a man, you need a penis and a Y chromosone to be a good, brawny bloke! Oh and if you know...ANYTHING about "Fine wines" you're OUT! of our gender.
