Punk music of this generation. Just. So. Terrible. Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, any tween-wave crap that claims it's "punk" just because the members have tattoos and play guitar. I haven't liked a punk(or anything close to) album since American Idiot and that was almost 10 years ago.

Try listening to rise against. They're far from the current pop punk tidal wave of mediocrity.

Rap, I have only ever listened to one or two rap songs that haven't made me want to rip my ears off from the crudeness. I do see the artistic potential in it though, if only people would enact on it.

I don't have a genre I dislike, I like pretty much all music. I just hate some songs in genres.

All of the songs are about satin
As an avid metal fan, I've never once heard a metal song making really any form of reference to something satin. I mean, it's comfortable to wear but that doesn't make for good heavy lyrics.

But to be serious and on topic, I can't stand dubstep.
It's fucking horrible. How the hell can anyone call something like this music?

It's just a bunch of obnoxious industrial noises put through a synthesizer. That's just annoying to me. I know there are different tastes in music and there are plenty of people who despise the type of music I love but that... is just beyond me. Metal is one thing with loud, obnoxious sounds but this is like they purposefully thought up the most odious shit they could. There's no melody. No real semblance of any form of aesthetically pleasing song writing. It's just irritating noise to me.

Now, in terms of music like mainstream pop/hip hop... I tend to not even count it as legitimate music. It's just something to pander to as many people as possible and be as commercially friendly as it can be for as long as it can be until some other, prettier face comes along with equally annoying songs about teen relationships or whatever the fuck. It goes in and out of style very quickly and not even worth any attention.

This seems extremely harsh while reading before I post it but... eh. *shrugs and hits 'post'*

A tie between rap and metal/screamo. Rap (to me) is just repetitive lyrics about sex, drugs, and sex with drugs. Metal and screamo are just ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I like the instruments and the music but the, "RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!", for 2 minutes straight and general over-the-top attitudes of the genre are just head ache inducing and (for me) serve no real purpose.

I won't say "I hate rap or hip-hop" but it's a genre of music I struggle to get into as a person. The ability to "rhyme" isn't a point which automatically sells me on music and I can't say the "social issues" invovled with it are that engaging to me as a person. Everyone always says "you have to listen to the message...". What if I just want artistic, soothing, dark, beautiful elegance in my music? Then again I am one of the most anti-sociological people you can meet. I dislike Rage Against the Machien solely because of their lyrical content. They are competent as musicians overall, but they always tried to appeal to "those kids" who never knew that much about politics outside of their Che T-shirts.

The same can be said for "Indie Rock". It feels to me like it's trying to repeat the artistic nature of the 1970's by doing it in this psuedo, wannabee, shallow way that gives the 1990's bands (REM, Radiohead, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins) a run for their money. Very few of these bands have anything fun to say, musical depth, or otherwise. Just a broad category for otherwise "random bands" that just fall into the definition of not having enough talent to make it anywhere are meant for bars around college towns.

To all those who can't get into metal...I will just simply state that it has depth unobservable to those who choose not to challenge themselves as music listeners. Once you go past the "growling isn't singing stage" you have found the true, hidden, bastard child of the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Hendrix's legacy.

Mainstream rap and R&B. To me, the rap half seems to me like it's all about how awesome the artist (thinks he/she) is and R&B all about wanting the artists significant other back (almost without fail). It's just very repetitive.

Also, to a lesser extent, metal. I'm sorry, some bands have extremely talented musicians, but if I can't understand 99% of what they're saying, I just can't get into it. I like lyrically brilliant music first and foremost.

Read while listening.
Enjoy.
Might I suggest Opeth? They are the dark bastard child of King Crimson and Pink Floyd with death metal elements...not to mention even some B.B. King. :D

Country: Twangy guitars, whiny violins, reinforcement of southern stereotypes as subject matter (angry dad shoots daughter's boyfriend, over-frequent divorce, general negativity). I find it hard to admit this, but I don't like hearing the southern accent in music. I don't mind it at all in standard speech, but the sound it makes just doesn't appeal to me in song. The New Zealand accent: heck yes, especially with female singers.
Actually that's a common misconception. Modern country music actually bears a great deal of resemblance to classic rock. Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood? All country artists.

Songs you might recognize:

Truth be told it's that kind of misconception that makes me hesitant about dismissing any genre entirely. That said, I've yet to hear a Rap I liked.

Country. I've listened to a lot of country music (not by choice) and I have not heard a single song that I like.
Not even Devil Went Down to Georgia?

That's the only country song I can name that I like. So yeah country for me too.
Me three. Charlie Daniels is my only exception to country. Every country song sounds the same to me. Then people make the case of how beautiful the lyrics are and I almost slap them. Although Mr. Daniels, He was doing something right

I don't particularly hate any given genre, even a good country song can cheer me up. I can say that I fucking hate what a few genres have become today. Pop, rap, and country have become the but of jokes about bad to mediocre music. Basically I'm saying I hate modern mainstream music, except for Adele, that's a light of hope. I like the current metal and jazz scenes though, but they're not as...how do I put this...dominant in the industry these days.

Rap,Pop and Dubstep

Rap: I like some, mainly eminem. But most of that genre, eminem included take the whole world of subject matter for music and use like 4 or 5.

Pop: Do i really need to say. I have nothing personal against people like Justin Bieber, but they are in a genre in which you need no talent whatsoever.

Dubstep: Shouldn't even be genre. A group of brain-dead douchebags who think they are creative in screwing with good songs. I have a stepbrother who used to blast nothing but this crap.

Rap. I feel it to be a waste of musical talent.

Although, I did write a rap for my science final and get ten points extra credit, so it does have some practical applications.

Wow, so many people here just don't get rap music at all. In all honesty I can understand that, but there are so many rap songs that are just so awesome. I love the beats and rhythm of rap music and some (although admittedly not most of the mainstream guys) have really great and deep lyrics. The thing about rap is to never take the lyrics at face value, there's always something more to them. Some of you should head over to rapgenius.com.

Anyway, don't be hating on rap music, its not all that bad.

Eh I like most music genres. The one I like the least is country, I like some country like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson and stuff that was around when I was a kid (early and mid 90's). Lately country has gotten...bland.

This is the last country song I remember actually liking:

Rap, mostly because 90% of them are criminals who are bragging about how many guns they have, how much drugs they did or how many women they mistreated. Just seems like a bunch of tossers to me.

Me, im a big fan of all types of Rock/Metal music.

The music i REALLY cant stand is the stuff today. all of these songs are the same thing. it seems that nearly all of these songs revolve around only a few things (Sex, Drugs, Alcohol and Partying.)

Its why the teenagers in britian are so fucked cause they think acting like only their social life matters is going to secure them a future.
