Oh, I dunno... ALL THINGS SOCIETY HAS PROVIDED TO YOU SO FAR!

Forget 3 square meals a day, well cooked and tasty.
Forget bathrooms.
Forget TV, PC and consoles.
Forget warm, safe houses.
Forget EVERY FREAKING THING!

Now, survive that if you can. I'd like to see people try that.

Gas mask. I got one, use it rarely, but I keep it ready even for an actual emergency of slightly higher possibility like a tanker with some lethal gas tipped over in the night and the cops have to evac a neighbor hood. What if the virus can become airborne? Deadly gases escaping from an industrial site, or military trying to gas the zombies I'd be good. Unless the military uses mustard gas to corrode the already decaying bodies... damn, i need a hazmat suit now...

Body armour with shoulder guards, gloves (mentioned before) and a good sturdy hitty stick.

Even if zombies showed up one day. They would not stand a chance in hell. By now everyone knows what a zombie does and how to kill them but even if they did not it still would not happen.

Random dude starts eating other people, first thing everyone else is gonna do is shoot the fucker. If he does not drop they will shoot him in the face. Then when the second person gets up and imitating his behaviour they would shoot him in the head too.
Zombie threat wiped out.
If you saw someone shambling around biting people would your first thought be Zombie or drunken psycho? Most would think the latter is true (including the authorities who have the guns (i'm english, it's rare to find someone over here in posession of a firearm that isn't in some way connected to the government and they will not fire it without filling out 19 health and safety forms in triplicate)) by the time they realise and have filled out the nesecary paperwork "drunken Psycho" has bitten half the population of south london, that is not a quick fix.

Every zombie movie has done that...

Your avatar makes me think of the Goth kid dance from South Park.

Ever heard of Caramelldansen?
Swedish pop is awesome!
Lol, yeah I've seen tons of animations for that song. But, his coat, lack of emotion and relatively little movement, well...

Toilet paper. Zombies or no, when you gotta go, you gotta go, and nothing compromises your running speed like a sore bum.
Also, prescription meds. I have a hard enough time focusing in stressful situations WITH my pills; once they ran out and OCD/depression kicked in with a vengeance, I'd either spend all my time panicking over being infected, curled up in a corner, or just go into a complete berserk rage and slaughter zombies with no regard for my own well-being, dying or being infected immediately.

In a post-zombie apocolypse people will forget basic sanitation other than bio-hazard (if the zombie outbreak is caused by a virus)because when electricity, running water,law/order collaps.. sanitation is essential to keeping yourself going next to finding clean water, food, shelter ect.

When I was watching 28 Days Later, it occurred to me that the suicide rate would probably skyrocket and not to mention non-zombified people killing eachother out of desperation for resources.

I'm going to make a few referances to World War Z here and offer a few helpful hints to the military.

1. If you are going to make a military line in the sand to hold off undead forces, make damn sure you have enough ammunition for sustained operation.
2. You can forget about flashbangs, toxins or noxious gases as they won't do a thing. Also don't really bother with heavy artillery, as the lack of a 'balloon effect' for a walking corpse makes such explosions have almost no effect on large crowds.
3. Remember that no matter what we do in combat, zombies are never going to retreat and are never going to be afraid or fall back, so making a limited amount of ammunition and an emphasis on looking threatening is not going to help here.
4. Do not use landwarrior communication systems that allow people to talk over the battlefield, all it does is allow panic to spread in battle.

I'm glad someone pointed out water and stores getting nasty really fast. Also transportation, people like to think of them selves as driving around killing zombies/getting to safety. But every-time you have to stop for gas you'll have to clear the station to turn on the pumps and those tanks are going to run out fast. Right when the infection starts everyone is going to stock up on supplies(even the people who'll die anyway) so there won't be much gas left at the station and no ones going to deliver more. Then you have to deal with other survivors getting there before you. When the world goes to hell an SUV wont last 2 days and a bike might last you a week.

Socks.

No one is going to remember socks.
I'll admit I didn't even think about socks. Granted my strategy will be to lock down my local area while my friends and family gather here and slowly expand the safe zone. So I'd have my sock, but if that failed...hell I can't even remember to bring enough socks on vacations.

finally figured out where I went wrong on this

You'd get plenty of shower..in zombie blood. Which is another thing when the infection hits how easily will it spread. After all if you in end up in a close fight with 2-3 of them and have to hack 'em to bits with a machete are something you're gonna get their blood on you. No doubt you'll have worked up a sweat, will it soaking into your pores infect you?

Actually I think Versus thread still are the bane of the Escapist. But you're right i don't think I've seen a Zombie thread like this before.

And on a more serious note I think we'll forget our Humanity, it'll be Dog eat Dog.....well Man eat Man if I want to get technical I suppose XD

( My common sense is tingling to tell me that you probably messed up on the quoting. )

that depends if the infection is airborne (in which we are all pretty much fucked), propagates by touch (survivable but it's gonna be on hell of a fight), or only propagates thru bite, scratch or other direct contact with our blood.

in the last case, getting showered in blood isn't really an issue unless you have open wounds everywhere, or if you are actually stupid enough to drunk the blood...
