19 year old virgin playing games in his moms basement over xbox live ((L4D)): Dude, you need to learn how to play you fuckin nooB!

Me: gee, sorry. I was too busy having sex with my girlfriend, drinking at parties, and training for two sports to get the game when it came out and play it every nanosecond since.

Utter silence fell over the line.
That's because you're an utter fuckwit and they weren't nearly as willing to say as much to you with their cloak of +4 internet anonymity as I am. I have sex with my girlfriend, drink casually, and don't both training for things I don't find entertaining, though I do coach a 'sports' team, to use your vague term from your 'two sports' line. I don't play video games my every waking moment, and whether you realize it or not being a teacher is actually a very time consuming job. Do any of these facts matter at all? Naw, not really, but since you shared your life story I thought I should share mine. Otherwise I'd have you at a tremendous disadvantage.

So, why do I expect you to pay attention to what's going on when you play a video game with me? Because if you're only ever going to be playing while you're 'wasted' at your 'parties' you're actually hurting everyone else's enjoyment of the game. That's why they're hostile with you. Now, these hostile people you were attempting to characterize do exist. They're a sad sort who only play with other people like them, and only until those people decide that they are too 'lolol nub' to play with them, and then they sulk off to a new group that is 't0o pr0 4 u' until eventually they pick up a new game and starts the circle of life all over again. However, with you? I think it's well warranted.

Of course, that's just my assessment from your 'bro' attitude you just displayed.

"LOLOLOL VIRGINS LOLOLOLOL I R HAZ LIF SO GUD I HAZ 2 BRG"

Even if they are 19 year old virgins going to some community college... Their conservative nature is none of your damn business and has nothing to do with their worth. Maybe they're one of those rare high moral folk that actually believe chastity to be a good idea? I know I didn't wait until I was married, but then again... I was lucky enough to grow up in an area with quite a few attractive females with low standards. Sue me. Why does that impact their gaming lives in the least? Some of those people are definitely clocking 16 hours a day on their latest toy, but fuck me if some drunken frat boy going 'FOOOOOOTBAAAAAAAAAAALL' during my recreational activities is going to be let off with a casual 'Could you stop shouting into your mic about that fat bowl you just smoked and play the game?'
(((YAAAWWWNN))) First off, you are the kind of dull halfwit that makes all kinds of assumptions, which automatically makes me want to ignore you. I dont smoke pot. I dont "party" while playing games. Im not a casual, college frat boy gamer. What I am, is a 29 year old who trains for MMA and pro strongman competitions. ((IE of two sports))
what I dont like, that you fail to understand, is people who take gaming so seriousley that they fly off the handle when they get fragged or "lose". I heard the same dumbass I described before crying when he got killed. Over a fucking game.
I have been gaming, console and tabletop, boardgames, computer, etc since I was 6. It is fun, a source of release of stress. you see my reaction as "Im better than the 19 year old virgin", but somehow are able to distance yourself from reality far enough to not realize that it was his attitude, and also the one you have adopted.

My point is, do not make the assumption that everyone else in the universe makes console gaming thier life. and try, just once, instead of yelling and acting like a douche bag, dispensing some helpfull advice to players who are new or don't spend their every waking hour playing one game so they can say things like:

HAHAHA NOOB U R PWNED!!! I R AWESOME AND U R GAY!! HAHAHA!!!

There is an orientation of gamer, me included, that prefers to learn things through experience and not by looking it up. It makes the game more business and less fun.

gotta be teamkilling. it ticks me of when some guy kills you for a weapon he thinks he has 'skill' at and then ends up failing to kill a single dude with it. what is with that i mean cmon... im not that good but im sure i can get one kill with a gun... seriously sometimes i find that 'pro's' are harder to bear with noobs (well i dont mind noobs that accept some criticism)

Yeah, and most everything that I KNOW about WoW came from my personal experience, but if you're one of those 'learn by doing' folk and you're asking us to tell you something instead of going and doing it... You're kind of killing your own point. The not being able to navigate an instance bit particularly since blizzard has implemented all these new lovely maps and such just for that purpose. The statement was that they're 'getting lost' which has nothing to do with learning content. :p It implies that they asked the group where UK is, or UP, or Nexus, or CoS... Which most of us, myself included (I like to use that phrase because it makes people less likely to call me out, because then it's a personal attack), will answer with no lip. However, if you're not going to take the time to open your map and look for yourself... Y'know, since it doesn't require any fancy addons or anything just some good old fashioned DIY... You really can't argue that we'd be unreasonable to get upset with you.

Alright, now it's time to go make children cry.

INTERNET TOUGH-GUY! AWAY! *whoosh*

Edit: Actually, this brings me to an excellent point that's actually on-topic and not part of flame war '09.

What pro behavior do I hate? We'll use an example that's an extension of this current discussion.

Faildruid has joined the party.
Faildruid: Hey guys, thanks for the invite!
Mediocrewarrior: Welcome! You're DPS?
Okaymage: He said he was feral
LOLADIN: No I'm tank.
LOLADIN: Oh you meant him lol!
Faildruid: Yeah I'm a chickenbear lol!
AFKhealer: Back guys, where are we going?
Mediocrewarrior: Heroic daily is Violet Hold, you guys want to hit that up then do CoS really quick?
AFKhealer: I don't have time for both let's just do the heroic, brb baby aggro.
Faildruid: Where is Violet Hold?
Okaymage: lol nub
Faildruid: Hey I'm new to this, come on guys, this is my first character I've ever hit a level cap on.
Mediocrewarrior: Hey that's cool, most of us are on character that haven't been 80 long. I have a boomkin in Server's Best Guild, if you ever need help just message betterthanyoucauseiraid. Violet Hold is in dalaran.
Faildruid: I'm in Dalaran I don't see it. Is it the big tower?
okaymage: Open your map, you'll see it
Faildruid: I'll find it...
Faildruid: Is it this place? Sunreaver's Sanctum?
Faildruid: wtf it kicked me out when I tried to enter.
LOLADIN: Ur a nub...
Faildruid: Look i've been playing this game since beta just because i've never been in northrend doesn't make me a nub assholes.
Mediocrewarrior: Just open your map, it's right there. Between the fishing daily and the landing pad.
Faildruid: Oh my god stop treating me like i'm dumb I know how to play.
Mediocrewarrior: k. We're inside waiting on you and afk.
AFKhealer: back guys, okay i'm in.
Mediocrewarrior: Faildruid do you want me to come out and show you how to find it?
Faildruid: No I'll find it.
Faildruid: Oh here it is! It was on my map, it says violet hold lol. See? You guys aren't very helpful.

six portals later

Mediocrewarrior: Faildruid you're having a pretty low activity level. You okay buddy?
Faildruid: activity level?
Mediocrewarrior: Uhm, the amount of time your character is doing something other than sitting there staring off into space.
Faildruid: I'm getting used to balance lol used to feral.
Mediocrewarrior: Well how about try opening with faerie fire and cycling your insect swarm, moonfire for their dots but also do wrath? You seem to be just waiting for your dots to stop.
Faildruid: My character, I'll play him how I want.
Okaymage: No he's right, recount shows you have half the activity level of afkhealer and she loladin had to heal HIMSELF through the last four portals. Come on man, do something during that time besides watch the dots tick.
Faildruid: Oh my god, you guys are nazis. Just because everyone doesn't play YOUR WAY you think they're dumb. You think you're SO MUCH BETTER! You're just SHFGs the lot of you. I'll have you know I could kick all your asses on any console game evar! U R LAME U R GAY U R NOT GUD CUZ DIS GAM SUX SO MUC MOR! I HAV A LIF N SO I KINT PLAY GAMEZ ALL DA TIME! PLAY ME AT COD I WILL ROFLSTOMP UR NUB ASSES!
AFKhealer: Sorry about that guys, baby. You know how it is. What did I miss, did we wipe?
Mediocrewarrior: Dude, I was just saying you could probably do better if you did it this way. Come on, I'm fury, do you really think I believe I'm better than you? I just like swinging two really big sticks at stuff.
Faildruid: U HARSH MY PLAY U GUIZ SUCK
Faildruid has left the party.
Okaymage: -sigh- I guess invite Huntard so we can get the damn daily done.

I agree, I am the same way- I like to explore. But I'm not going to inconvenience 4 other people who are waiting for me by stumbling blindly around, looking for the instance- I'm going to open my map and find out where it is. Or, I'll look on one of those sites- because really, knowing where things are doesn't limit my fun. Once I GET to said new place, I have new things to experience.

It's fine to do that - just do it on your own time. If you're holding up and restricting 4/9/24 other guys play because you didn't want to look something up, you're helping to ruin their game experience.

Friends of yours will likely not mine too bad, but PuGs are a whole other matter.

Pretty much the mindset semi-parodied in the webseries 'Pure Pwnage'.

"You can train a newb, but he'll just be like... a trained newb, you know?"

Or, in harsher terms: "It does not matter how much any of you practice, you will never be as good as the talents granted to me by the gaming Gods so just quit nowwwwwwww."

Also the instinct prevalent in many team games to blame everything on your team and quit the moment the situation turns against you. Pros may not be the only ones to do this, but I've certainly seen some good players do it.

I believe that depends, if you actually set up a good position, put some traps around your area and snipe the folks walking across that valley that everyone hates because there's always a camper but they have to because_________ then I see no reall wrong in it.
However if you stand in a corner by a door and melee people in the back all day that I see it as a problem
i agree if you camp as a sniper or any other long ranged type weapon. but if you have, say, a P90 on MW2 just sitting behind a door where the enemy cant see you or something like that then i get pissed off. i guess that could be a pro or noob tactic, but whatever. in short though totally agree with you
you also got to counter in that if your team isn't as bollix as mine usually is then you can work together to take a camper(s) down

Funny, because most of the time I used the M249 as an M4 with a 100 round magazine. Just because I use an LMG doesn't mean I'm just going to spray bullets everywhere, it just means that I'm a challenge whore who has been forced to use LMGs for the points. Also damned near necessary to take down choppers reliably, as RPGs unrealistically veer off target every god damned time at the last possible second before impact.
then what about the people who use it to spray and pray?
Well if you're an idiot running around in HC, then you should've seen it coming. In every other mode, you just put a few aimed rounds in their center of mass and carry on.

Pro things? I haven't seen any real ones listed. Spawn killing is never done in pro matches...its always some variant of S&D or something.

OT: Totally ripping the game from the way it's suppose to be played.

in Halo 3 when the 4 of them run as a team killing everything in sight, it particularly ticks me off because the guys i end up with almost always dont want to team up and we end up being moving targets for the other team
