Yeah, this pretty much sums it up for me. I mostly use Garrus and Zaeed though, cause they're both the "get the job done, fuck the casualties" type of characters, and that fits with me.Zantos said:

I rotate everyone regularly in all my playthroughs (what's the fun in using the same team every time?), but I use Miranda the most. She's got a power for every situation(Armor/Barriers: Warp, Shields/Mech: Overload, Crowd Control/Husk Insta-killing: Slam)
Thought I like him as a character, I use Jacob the least. His special power is extra protection for himself. I would rather my characters have more offensive powers. His Pull power is good for crowd control and Husk Insta-killing (they die whenever they leave their feet, so long as you have their armor down). I guess Jacob's powers are better suited for players who rely more on gunplay (he can give you Squad Incendiary Ammo or Inferno Ammo for himself). I prefer to take control and use all my teams' powers constantly.

For ME2, I used my favorites and ignore balance. Garrus, Tali, Legion, Thane, Kasumi, Mordin, and Jack. Mix it up as necessary, though I generally go with Garrus + Kasumi/Mordin.

I go Infiltrator all day every day, get Garrus as backup and bring someone along for biotics. I'm all about long range.
When I'm exploring new places, Garrus stays with me alongside with either Mordin or Tali, depending. I like their comments best. Favorite teammates easily.
In battle, it depends. My biotic is always Samara because I like her more and I've noticed Jack had a tendency to die really goddamn easily. 8| Tali is always my tech girl. Upgrade her shotgun and she's a monster.
When I know there's going to be a stupid amount of enemies to fight, I bring Mordin. When maxed out, his incinerate and cyro techs are very helpful in conserving heat sinks.
And when absolutely everything must die, I bring Garrus and Legion. Including my Infiltrator FemShep, that's three snipers with fully maxed out weapon upgrades. It's a little ridiculous how easy combat gets at that point. I may have to do my next play-through on Insanity for kicks.
But 90% of the time, I'm taking Garrus with me. Gotta love Space Batman.

Usual: Thane, Garrus and myself. All with Sniper rifles. Laying down the doom.

His disgust with my small talk makes me dislike him I guess - especially since I've never even tried to 'romance' him.
