What time is it acceptable to start drinking at?

I think that attaching rules to what time your drinking is 'OK' or 'not OK' is more indicative of a problem than actually having a cocktail at 8AM. As always, self discipline > following some arbitrary rule. Besides, mimosas and bloody marys are two excellent ways to have your morning juice.

I only ask from you one thing.

To remember its 5'o clock somewhere ;)

I believe there is an acceptable time though. Like MOST working people open a beer right after work which is usually around 4-5 pm. I usually start drinking once I have beer in my fridge and food or something to munch on. Like this passed vacation in the Dominican Republic, Me and my friends would wake up every morning at 10am and open a Presidente beer. From there on we drank all day. When I was at university my 'acceptable time' was right when class was done and over with for the day. Usually at 3pm.

Uh... Any time after about 5pm I'd say. For weekdays anyway. For weekends any time you feel like it. The only excuse for early morning drinking on a weekday is if you haven't slept in days and have lost all concept of time.

High noon...

Exceptions:
- at the start of any family member, or girlfriend's birthday party.
- when you find yourself on a local bus (only applicable in America)
- when a marathon of Firefly is on
- in the immediate vicinity of any sports stadium.
- planning a round of warhammer/40k, or D&D (must stop precisely halfway through game)
- power is out(weekend only)
- If you plan on playing games, reading books or watching movies from childhood (drink will substitute nostalgia)
- Going to vote (PTA not included)

It depends... I've started at 10 in the morning for days like the Melbourne cup but I don't think there is one specific time. It depends on the social situation and what others are doing around you to what time you start.

My general rule of thumb is no alcohol until I have properly woken up, which usually takes 1-2 hours.

Alcoholics aside, really as soon as the sun goes down is a "socially acceptable" time to start drinking.
I would generally agree with this and I tend to abide to it.

Depends on the situation. If you're on some sort of trip with a couple of guys or at a festival or something like that, around-the-clock drinking wouldn't be unusual.
If there's no special occasion, I would say around 14 or 15, would be somewhat acceptable.

Not that I have any REAL time limits (as seems to go for most of you), I'd start drinking as soon as I get up if I want to (not too often), but more just anytime after noon if there are people watching me drink as im selfconscious :/

Remember: It is always beer-time ;)
You don't drink in bed? Yeesh!

On a serious note, it really depends on the day. If its just a normal day then theres really no need to start until later (after 5ish?), I mean, I don't know how well beer goes with your breakfast but generally speaking milk or juice would be more healthy for ya. But if it was like... the anniversary of some tragedy than feel free to drown your sorrows if you want to be a drunk pile of crap.

Also I'm a little surprised at the large number of alcoholics in this thread. I've probably had less drinks in my life than they've had in one night, and I'm well beyond drinking age. I just never saw the point in spending ALL that money on something which only serves to remove ones inhibitions, because acting like a jackass comes pretty easy to me and I don't need drinks to take away my shame... I have none. So for me its basically the same as throwing my money away, and theres no way I'm doing that... especially in THIS economic climate!
