What to do when your friends think Modern Warfare is teh best game evar.

Ah, I know people like this. What you do is live and let live, and talk to them about things you can actually agree on. Don't bring up gaming, and if they do, wait for as long as it's polite for them to finish the conversation and then change the subject.

My 3 best friends (and it's odd now how the term "best friend" sounds so weird and immature to use... but it's the best term really) hate Naruto, which I like, so I don't talk about it much. Similarly, another one of my best friends likes WoW, which we all hate, so he doesn't talk about it much. We get by discussing other things and have a great time.

I'd find a few social things you are united on. For instance, us four are united in our love of WH40k, and we have big 2 on 2 games just about every weekend where we meet up and have fun. Come to think of it, WH40k is really a blessing - we set aside about 5 hours in a day to playing a big game, and most of that is spent doing what Jervis Johnson calls the "camaraderie" side of the hobby. But if your friends don't like it - and it doesn't sound like they would - just find something else not gaming related, like... I dunno, sports?

It's really big, has inhospitable weather, the language is difficult to learn, and their police tend to not ask too many questions.

I agree. especially in the campaign. Better lighting, facial animations and environments. Far better looking game than MW2, though they are both purtty.

None of the vistas were quite as epic and affecting to me though as the Washington ones in MW2.

It's true it is cliche. But Black Ops has the same story and so does mostly every other CoD.

Crysis isn't super graphics anymore. Although Crysis 2 will be...but CoD doesn't go for super awesome realistic graphics. It's more cartoony.

No but seriously, some people are just set in their own way of thinking and wont be swayed so you should just avoid the topic if it's too bad.

I know that with all my friends there is always one or more subjects I cannot discuss because it would be like barking into a wall, so I stick to other stuff.

Did you ever think that your friends maybe aren't "gamers" and you are? Thus your styles vary tremendously? You post on the escapist, it says something about the way you feel about games and what they give to you. Probably a hugely different perspective then your friends. Yes it sucks. On a more educated note: Many of my friends don't generally think that every game is great or even good, they play them and they have fun because we all play together and therefore we make fun out of good and bad games..

And who cares what people think or say to be honest.. there are people in this world that say the whites are all mighty and powerful, there are people that say the same for Americans, British, Female, etc. these people aren't right (necessarily) but you don't have to listen to them either, like the majority of the world..

I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, but i will respect opinions that are backed up by facts or valid points rather than "MW2 is da bestest thang ev4r" being the only thing they say. Also i wouldn't take anything IGN say seriously anymore since the whole Kane and Lynch fiasco (I know it was ages ago, but rep is rep).
Yeah MW2 is a good game but the best game?!? Not in my opinion. I will certainly have friends who think so and i will respect those opinions so long as they at least attempt to back up those opinions in some fashion - even if its just "its my kinda game".

The people I live with think the same so I just solved the problem by introducing them into Battlefield Bad Company 2 for shooters, Portal and Left 4 Dead. Problem was quickly solved without further discussion.

Almost all of my friends think that it is the best game ever, I try to not talk to them about games because they are more closed minded than a 97 year old about anything they don't like.
