Sadly, I have two cousins who think CoD4 is the greatest shit ever.
They state it as fact, that no other shooter is as good "Because".

It's a sad day to be sure when such shiny mediocrity qualifies as the "best in the business".

I gotta be honest. I've been a PC gamer since I was four, but Modern Warfare really is top-notch. The presentation is great, and the gameplay is, in a lot of ways, best-in-the-business.

Granted, that is a point of subjectivity, but I still stand by it.

If someone I know is that into a game and determined to tell me in every waking moment how good it is, then I...let them? I don't hate MW2. It's got a completely ridiculous story, silly physics, and the most mind-numbingly frustrating experience of any game I've ever played, but I still enjoy the mindless shooty gameplay from time to time.
If someone thinks it's the second coming then so be it. I can always tell them to shut up and go back to their Captain Price body pillows if it really starts annoying me.
And honestly those "360 is so much better than PC lolz" comments don't even phase me because I refuse to get into that whole discussion, seeing it as the utter waste of time and effort it is. Both platforms have their own merits.
So again: Let them have their opinions and tell 'em to piss off if they annoy me. >_>

I generally beat them with whatever is in my hands. Because they know not to use the word "best" to describe anything. Ever. No game is the "best". I have my favorites, they have theirs. But no one's opinion is a better opinion.

MW2 was mediocre, in my humble opinion.

I let them get on with what they want to do and I avoid geeking out too much over the stuff I like. Hell, most of them haven't even heard of Half Life. That's okay with me.

Dude, get over it, your friends can think what they want, it's their own opinion. I was in the same position as you until some guy came along and said words of this effect to me.

Just let them think what they want to think, if it's affecting the games you play together then just ride it out and play it with them till they get tired of it.

My most beloved game of all time is Giants Citizen Kabuto, I've been told by many people that its an old, stupid game with lame graphics to which I can just reply ''your mum'' but it wouldnt be an educated response so I just reply ''It's subjective opinion, I cant be wrong, sorry for bursting your 'I'm always right' bubble'' and then I get along my way. Sorry, but I disagree vehemently. What you are proposing is relativism and the frankly silly idea that all opinions have equal merit, something that has been cropping up quite a bit recently.

They don't. There ARE objective criteria, and subjective opinions CAN be wrong. You can LIKE something more than something else of higher objective value, but saying that something is good is making an objective statement, at which point you are at the mercy of canon and consensus.

When somebody says that Dynasty Warriors 11,294 is better than Okami or Arkham Asylum, then it may be his opinion, but it is wrong. People whose personal opinion is that paint chips taste better than ice cream usually are sent to mental institutions.

That's the exact same as my friends. You just have to accept that some people's gaming habits are different to yours. Embrrace the fact that you know a wealth of other games that you and millions of others enjoy and can discuss. They can't have that. Let them play around with a game that, based on every time I talk to someone who's playing it, only incites great vengeance and furious anger.

I've been a PC gamer just as long (proportionally, since I do not know your age), and the game is NOT top-notch except in the context of today's market. It does look nice though, I'll give it that.

I can cite numerous problems from a gameplay perspective, but doing so is just wasting everyone's time, because they've already decided if they like the game or not.
So my complaints (no matter how objective) will just be considered trolling at that point.

Enjoy Black Ops if it makes you happy. I can't really fault you for that. It is subjective, as you say.

But for me, it only serves to remind that this is the only thing I will see out of the gaming industry for the next 5 years (or longer).
And I am really tired of hearing about this game series. It's everywhere.
