Oh dear. It appears nobody loves me anymore.

I might not be a dick about it overly often (unless you're in my raiding guild), but I really do enjoy playing the meta-game, especially in RPG's. There's a surprising amount of fun to be had merely from planning setups, talent trees, group compositions, and the like.
It's one of these things that I started doing while playing WoW, and came to enjoy enough for the habit to carry over.

And to answer the question: I don't get annoyed much - and probably would miss the chorus of moaners whenever it'd stop - but there's one group of people who manages to raise my ire almost effortlessly: mic spammers.

I don't care whether it's some adrenalin-hopping kid, a guy playing music, some idiot shouting orders at everyone, or just a faulty mic; the moment you start making loud and unwanted VoIP noises in my direction I cease being civil.

Elitists: "PC Gaming Master Race," X-bots, Sony fanboys, etc...

Self-described "hardcore" gamers

Cheaters/Hackers

Pirates (seriously, screw you and your asinine justifications for stealing)

People who say how bad they think their team is out loud.

So many TF2 games yesterday where the other team had one guy who constantly berated them.

Now, sometimes I think my team's doing bad as a whole too, but I only think it. What good is insulting them going to do? It just makes things awkward.

Anyone who uses the word "e-sports". Gaming is not a sport. And this push to try to make "e-sports" a thing just strikes me as people desperate to point to it and say to their fathers "See, dad? It is a legitimate pastime!"
That^

Girl Gamers: Leave your gender out of gaming. People like video games gender is completely irrelevant to that enjoyment. It's like saying "Girl Sports Fan" as if it's something noteworthy.

PC Elitist: I don't care if you built you own pc and it can run 3 games of skyrim on max graphics at the same time.

"Otaku": People who only think super weird anime freaks and japanophiles can appreciate/enjoy video games.

Memers: I can't help but think they're devoid of any original thought.

Hardcore: That guy who plays the game beyond its original means, he breaks mechanics and does shit that is just unnecessary and ruins the enjoyment of the game. My friend is like this in smash brothers with his mini hops and other crap like that. Infinite comboers in MvC2 kinda falls in this category as well.

TL;DR: The 360 turnspin zomgpwned 1337 guy

People who will call themselves hardcore gamers, call gamers who aren't as good as them casual gamers, and not play anything outside of wartime fps's.

Or really anyone who will completely dismiss genres of games for shallow reasons(Except sports games! I reserve the right to be hypocritical with that!). Example being when my girlfriend's brother came in to see me and her playing LoL and chided us for playing "Girly games" and saying "Dude, that's just like WoW". Just for context, he only approves of manly games with guns and cars.

Metagamers, "You are not allowed to use X or use strategy Y under any circumstances because it is noob", especially the ones that argue that by using X or Y you are ruining their fun.
If X is a weapon put in the game in by the developers, and tactic Y allows you to win while playing the objective and neither breaks any rules, yet you can't enjoy without them being banned, then maybe should wonder if this game is actually for you or that an other game may be more for you.

Elitsts, especially the ones that think their argument objectively proves why one game, genre or platform then an other, if one game (COD vs HALO vs BF), or platform (XBOX VS PS VS PC) was objectively better, don't you think the others wouldn't be able to compete?
It also doesn't matter what your platform has or the other hasn't got, it's about what platform suits your needs best.
Concrete example: PC gamers have far better graphics, but I played CoD BO on a 20 inch tv four player splitscreen, don't you think that I would have switched by now if I cared about graphics?

Fanboys (of consoles, games, developers and publishers) that refuse to accept people liking other games then themselves even if their reasons for liking other games may be valid.
Also haters (sort of anti-fanboys).
Pretty self explanatory, if you can't understand people's reasons for their prefrences, debating is useless because you can't counter what you don't understand without looking like an idiot.

Girl gamers, and I don't mean female gamers but the female gamers that call themselves girl gamers for attention seeking purposes.
Female gamers I have no problems with, they are just normal gamers to me.

Can't think of any other types of gamers at the moment.

The gamers that most annoy me are the ones who read everything about the game they're playing while (or before) playing the actual game. People who must read the wikia of a game to know exactly what happens if they choose to help or kill a character in a game.
I think it just ruins the whole experience. If the game asks you to make a choice, it's because the developers wanted the players to think about their actions, not look at what they would win if they chose to do X or Y.
I understand the use of wiki pages when someone's stuck in a portion of a game (a hard boss or puzzle for example). And even as guides to do something specific (get the best weapon in the game, access a secret level, etc.). But when it's just for the sake of knowing everything about the game, it ruins all the fun in my opinion.

The worst thing is when they see you playing, and tell you what will happen if you choose to do X or Y, or how you should use a different weapon or raise different stats.

And they can't seem to understand how someone could WANT to play the game blindly, without any external help. How they would like to be SURPRISED by what the game throws at them, and suffer the consequences if they make the wrong choices.

The "The statistics show how good you are at the game" type. Especially in team based games where the statistics do not reflect that (as they normally only show kills/deaths etc.).

Congratulations, you got ten kills, but your lack of support of team members meant we lost the game anyway, no, just because the leader board shows you at the top does not mean you are good at the game.

I guess I'd annoy some people on here then, because in team games I will fairly frequently suggest tactics and ideas. Although to be honest, I don't see the point in having chat if everybody is silent. That said, I try and keep it as calm and polite as possible, I never actually tell people what to do.

I have a friend that refuses to play a lot of games based on the graphics not being "shiny" enough for him (if it isn't 3D graphics, he will most likely ignore the game). These types of people annoy me a little because they refuse to play games that have great mechanics because of graphics.
A friend of mine adored Halo 3, I mean seriously spent an insane amount of hours playing. He was late to the Xbox so never owned the first two.

He refused to play Halo Combat Evolved or Halo 2 because of the graphics.

MLG and "OP" gamers.

Gears of War 3 is my main multiplayer game, so I run across a lot of these types. When you join a match you always run the risk of joining a game where a full stacked team of 5 is just dominating bots or random people who don't know each other. These kinds of players tend to play like dogshit and compensate with their numbers and communication. I'll usually go like 15-3 and still lose, and they have the audacity to trash talk because one guy on the other team was completely destroying them.

OP gamers are people that say everything that kills them is overpowered. If you kill them with anything that isn't a gnasher, that gun is OP. If you kill them with the least used gun in the game, the Gorgon pistol, it's OP. If you melee them down, fists are OP. If you kill them with a gnasher you're laggy.
Heh, my Xbox bio actually takes the piss out of those types of Gears of War players.

Hmmm, I don't think I can choose between casuals, "pros", graphics whores, casuals that think they're hardcore, PC elite, homophobes, sexists and racists. I couldn't rank this beyond just casuals being the least annoying.

The worst type ever, in my opinion, are the ones who ***** about how they've changed a franchise.

First of all, I get it. I get why they're pissed. I was pretty pissed at the changes made in Splinter Cell (Solid game in itself but not worthy of the franchise. But I judged that based on playing it, not on the first trailer.

I mean, the DMC shit? It could turn out to be a fantastic game, right? It looks pretty fucking cool, to me. And maybe it's the creators idea! Maybe this is how it was meant to be from the start, it could have been planned from DMC 1.

And besides all that, sometimes the change is good. Resident Evil 4 was a whole lot better than the first ones, in terms of gameplay.

Ok, didn't mean for that to turn into a rant. But there it is. Those are the gamers I hate most.

Followed by the "It's ok to be sexist because girls don't play" gamers. And Nintendo loyalists. Not all of them and not because they're fans of Nintendo but because they wont let Mario die.

Gamers who are ashamed. Example:

I was riding home on the train next to an acquaintance of mine. He was reading the paper, and I happened to have my gameboy in my bag, so I took it out and started playing some pokemon.

He sees this, and says something like "I can't believe you're actually playing pokemon right now. I'm so embarrassed."

I'm baffled by this, and answer "Wait, I thought you said you played like several hours of pokemon last week?"

"Well, yeah. But I did that at home!"

Keep in mind, this is a person who regularly gets drunk and embarrasses himself in public, but what worries him is being seen with someone playing on his gameboy. Yeah.
Oh my goodness this sorta but in reverse. I love gaming and am not scared to let people know about it. And if i'm with a gamer friend i'll have a discussion about it but I cannot stand being outside the game and that being the ONLY thing we talk about. I have this one clingy friend who follows me everywhere and wants to talk about games all the time... gets quite annoying.

To be brutally honest, oldtimers.

OK I get it you thought Doom or Quake were the ultimate FPSs and that regenerative health is b/s. One thing though. THEN PLAY THOSE GAMES!!!!

Usually it isn't that big of an issue but sometimes (usually brought up when EA or some other AAA company is mentioned) it just flares up and it gets really irritating really fast.

Sure some games shouldn't be "modern" FPSs (like the whole Dead Space 3 thing) but others are practically made for it (Spec Ops: The Line, or Battlefield 3, YES I LIKED BATTLEFIELD 3!!!).

I'm usually a pretty tolerant dude, so there aren't that many things that faze me. I can't say I "hate" any specific group of gamers, everyone has their tastes and such. I might not want to play with you if your tastes doesn't overlap mine, but I won't ever try to take your enjoyment away.

There are however some people who I think need to grow up a little bit. You know the kind, those who whine and whine when they loose. They complain about their team sucking and the opposing team cheating at the same time. Those people I can play without, but sometimes it's inevitable that you'll have some of them in a match. I mostly try to live and let live, but sometimes it's a bit annoying to have someone squealing in chat about how bad EVERYONE else it.

Also, for the record: I don't mind playing COD on my PC. I have this golden rule: On pub-games, I mute all players, all the time. Really helps keeping the "haters" at arms length.

im going to have to say Xbox users!

They represent the main streaming of MY hobby and it hasnt been good, we got triple A blockbusters that are so homogenised and devoid of creativity ( see call of modern battlefields) and the practice of being charged 3 times for the same game we used to buy once, or DLC as the corporates call it. Lastly the Xbox has caused a massive stagnation of tech as well.

nothing against them personally, just the effect on the industry their influx has had.

Quitters. Don't get me wrong, sometimes a person has to leave the game for something urgent(an emergency, late for work, etc). But it annoys me when you're beating your opponent and the douche just decides to quit, denying you a win. Dawn of War 2 had a concede option that lets you quit AND give your opponent a win. An option like that in the game and I still get asshats that simply quit outright, which gives me nothing.

It happens a lot in fighting games. People who can't handle my Swagneto simply quit.
This . But Persona 4 Arena , has the right methode . Anyone that quits too often mid fight will have their name in red , so people know not to play with them . Saw quite a few people with the "red taint" and no one will play with them . Serves them well . Especially when they quit in ranked matches or on the verge of a perfect .
