From the era just after bleeps and bloops:

aaand a remake/tribute of a different song in the same game (by Jeremy Soule):

...honestly, just look up anything by Jeremy Soule. Between the Total Annihilation soundtrack and the Icewind Dale soundtrack, he's sort of responsible for kindling my interest in symphony.

Nobuo Uematsu is incredible:
Final Fantasy 6: Aria de Mezzo Carattere
A few more examples:

Another VERY noteworthy composer:
Jeremy Soule:

Then we have pretty much everything in Extra Credits: Videogame Music [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2019-Videogame-Music]. Totally worth a listen.

Basically anything by Yoko Shimoura - some of the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack is incredible, and the piano arrangements have a Romantic quality similar to Liszt. If anything will prove your point, these will.

Harry Gregson Williams worked wonders for the MGS2 soundtrack and the series since then has had some awesome work done for the soundtrack, Love Theme and Old Snake from MGS 4 are good ones to name but a few, then again, who can forget the Blast Furnace or the music when Liquid fought you in a Mi-24D Hind, ah the good old days of a single japanese guy sitting at a keyboard trying to make music that is awesome enough for Solid Snake.

The camp theme from Dragonage: Origins.

It defines "Epic". I has elements of sorrow, honour, glory, duty, mysticism and it manages to incorporate the "Poetic Singer" (as the Nostalgia Critic called it) in a way that fits the setting and isn't over-the-top or pretentious. You could put this in one of the Lord of the Rings films and it wouldn't seem out of place.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Yasunori Mitsuda yet. Chrono Trigger and Cross have AMAZING soundtracks.

The Elder Scrolls theme, specifically the Morrowind version (the simplest one). The upbeat Oblivion one is also good, but wears thin after a while. The Skyrim one... hmmm... too guttural.

This is made of 100% win... and it brings a nostalgic tear to my eye :')

Trine soundtrack is good as well, but probably too "repetetive" for her. Nevertheless very moody.

My friend has a girlfriend who's mostly into classical music and is a cellist herself. She's not into pop music, likes some rock, but is mostly dismissive of anything other than classical music (Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, etc.). She's slightly elitist about it.
Heh. Well, my wife holds an MFA in performance flute and has been principal in a symphony. And she likes the Beetles, and used to do a duo with a guy on synthesizer (actually, real time computer improv hooked up to Midi).

Anyway, just asked her, and she says her favorite soundtrack is from Braid. Which I should have guessed, since it's got two of my favorite early harpists (Cheryl Ann Fulton and Shira Kammen, although I'm pretty sure Kammen only plays vielle on the soundtrack)

Oh and here's a weird one... try Touhou music.
Not that weird. Considering the ginormous number of remixes, there has to be at least one that she'll like.

I personally prefer the Grand Finale version...actually, ALL the songs from the Grand Finale collection are pure eargasm. Kefkas theme especially sends shivers down my spine.

So sinister and glorious

Mechwarrior 2 has a weird mix of techno and classical music that just sounds awesome. The odd beeps and bloops, but it's to strings and it's horribly awesome.

The Dragon age and Mass Effect games both had some pretty incredible music. And Gears 2, as bad as it was, had an amazing soundtrack
