Going to Iraq for no good reason.

"We did go in for good reaso--"

STFU.

Not good enough of a reason to send our extremely expensive (technology/lives) military there.

invading Canada: result was the white house burning down.
removing regulations on the stock exchange
taking all the oil rights in Iraq (we could have sold them to allied nations in return whith help in the middle east i.e. cheaper oil prices in Eurpoe and a small cure for the US national debt)
and all the GOP candidate saying Reagan was the best republican( Abe Lincoln's got him beat by far)

[pirate] doncha remember the pig war? ARR [/pirate] i first heard about it on an episode of arnold (anyone remember this show?) i thought it couldnt be real, so i googled it and it turned out, to the televisions surprize as much as my own, that it was a real ALMOST violent conflict with the involvement of both british and american army ocupying a small island over some guy shooting some pig (for some reason i almost tiped penguin, i guess that would have been weirder huh?)

electing Obama
Perhaps...
EDIT:
But then again, there were some rather nasty screw-ups, some that make that particularly event seem rather tame, like the Civil War, and the refusal of the government for so long to give all races equal rights (and yet there still aren't equal rights, affirmative action being an example. Such a pity).

empowerment of the federal government by the dissolution of states rights. Current times, states only have rights insofar as what the federal government allows.
