First game I cheated on was probably Super Mario Bros. using the level warps in 1-2 and 4-2. The first game I recall actually entering cheat codes was Doom. It's amazing that I still remember them off the top of my head, good old iddqd, idkfa/idfa, idspispopd, idchoppers, idbeholds, idbeholdl, idbeholdi, idbeholda, idbeholdv, iddt, idclip, idclev.

Muppets Racing on the PS1. They included the cheats in the back of the manual, which taught me that day to always read the manual.

Always.

Sonic 1. That level select cheat is standard knowledge to me. Mind you, nowadays I can blast through that game without cheating, even the trickier stages.

I dunno if I just have a bad memory or what, but I don't get these threads. How the hell do you people remember this stuff? I've been playing games for 15 years (give or take), so I really have no idea...

My favourite cheat ever.
Guide bot firing missiles.
A lot of missiles. Indiscriminately.

Descent II.

Pokemon was my first.

Curse you, Missingno!!
Do glitches count?

I think I was Pokemon too. Except it was to get legendaries that required me to go to Japan. Fuck you, Celibi!

Just outright telling would be boring, so I'll give some hints:

iddqd
idkfa

Who remembers these two?
Who doesn't?
idspispopd, on the other hand, was a little harder to remember...
Oddly enough, idspispopd is the only one I remember by heart to this day. I think it has something to do with the story behind it, which involves a fake game that people joked was going to be better than Doom.

OT: I can't even remember at this point. Top contenders include Doom, Warcraft 2, and Betrayal in Antara, although it could have been something on the Sega Genesis, using my Game Genie. I know I never would have been able to beat Target Earth without that thing, which would have been a shame, because it had one of the best stories of any action game from the period -- as in, top two, easily. I hope the people who were so hardcore against single player cheating in the whole "autistic kid accused of cheating to get gamerscore" thing read this thread.

For me, my first time "cheating" was in Super Mario Bros. on the NES. I was shown by a family friend a number of glitches, exploits, and game-altering inputs. Most of them leading to things like 'infinite' lives or some such thing.

Since then, I've used many cheats throughout my gaming life. However, I've only ever used the cheats that were programmed into the games and only after I've beaten the game in it's entirety.

[/edit] 'Course, one of the first times I used an actual "cheat" code was in Doom. Classic.

For me, it was The Great Giana Sisters on Commodore 64, which was either the 2nd or 3rd game I ever played, unless I'm counting Octopus and a few other G&W games.

R-Type, the 1987 arcade game from Irem. There were dip switches on the daughter board that let you modify game play, including adjusting the difficulty and an "invincible" mode.

Ahhh... those were the days...
