What was the scariest moment in a game that wasn't a horror game.

Yeh, there was definitely something about the Memory Lane area, quite creepy. What was it that happened in the snow cottage again? the memory lane door always creeps me out as well, its just...wrong...those cardboard people look trapped.
Other than that, there was a level in Serious Sam that actually scared me...it was one of the early levels that was in some sort of underground temple/sewer. Mainly due to the fact it was quite dark in there and, being Serious Sam, being suddenly set up by a 100 or so enemies at once wasn't unlikely!
OBlivion when the sound bugged , I was in some Aylied Ruins and the ghosts were making thier usual screaming/moaning sounds, but they were becoming louder, so maybe I was getting closer to it, then suddenly the screaming becomes so loud it nearly deafened me.

I never really counted it because it was more action then horror. Any scare I got was out of shock moments. It just didn't feel like horror to me.Hardcore_gamer said:
For me it was a time I was playing the first X-Com. It was about 2 am, no lights on in the house, the music in the game going quietly, and I was on a terror mission. I had a guy standing next to a building with an open door. I closed the door and there was a Chryssalid standing there. BioShock when you go into that room with water all over the floor and statues in it then as you enter you here someone moving in the water and you turn around and theres nothing but statues but this time they are facing you then go deeper in the room same god damn thing happens over and over then you grow a brain
Fallout 3... Was at Vault 101 and it wouldn't let me go to the door and the cursor said "Albino Radscorpion" when I looked at the door... Thought "ok..." and walked off... well, walked about 10 feet, turned around, and there was the Albino Radscorpion right in my face...

Embarrassing to say but... In Oblivion; I was starting my character and was in the sewers. I thought I had cleared them of rats and since the brightness of my T.V. is naturally low a rat just hisses and jumps right at me.
