Uh... I really don't remember.
My anime watching life started with whatever was available in HMV at the time, which was incredibly limited about 8 years ago.
Think I started with either X or Ninja Scroll and then progressed onwards. Saw Golgo 13: The Professional at some point which I can watch repeatedly without any trace of boredom even now. Also saw Akira and Ghost In The Shell. Was really impressed with GITS but not so much with Akira but a couple of years ago was told the books add stuff that the anime misses, and they make a little bit more sense apparently.
One thing I will draw attention to is Urotsukidoji, or Legend of the Overfiend. I don't know about anywhere else but the English DVD release had a giant demon towering over a city so I just thought it was going to be either a horror or action anime.
Was pretty surprised when the penis monsters started appearing and the main character was seeing more flesh than me at my youthful 18 years old. (Don't laugh...)
