I'd watched my brother play a few M-rated games like Half life, Counter Strike, Diablo II, and Prince of Persia the Two Thrones, but the first M-rated title I actually picked up and played for myself all the way through was Prince of Persia Warrior Within when I was about 13 or 14.

I believe it was Halo 2. And even then, that wasn't really very violent. Probably the first truly violent M game that I played was in the first few Mortal Kombat games.

Marathon on the Mac.
I don't know exactly how old I was, but it was before I entered kindergarten.
Except it didn't carry an M rating originally, did it?

Anyway, on topic, either Marathon or Unreal depending on the answer to the above comment.

Mass Effect when I was sixteen. I still maintain that the game SHOULD have been rated T.

The first undeniably M-rated game... probably Dragon Age.

(Yes, I love Bioware. I live in Edmonton, how can I not love Bioware?)

First M game I played was Halo 1 at a friend's house (I was five, and my parent's didn't know until I had already played it, but it was just splitscreen versus, so they didn't really care)
First one I owned and did single player on was DOOM. (I was seven)

I take it Mature is 15. In that case it would be Goldeneye 64 (15).. around 8-9 years old? Then Perfect Dark (18) 10? Too hard to remember. Perfect dark was basically Goldeneye, no idea why it was 18.

People really didn't care about the ratings back in those days, I don't know anyones parents have problems. I suppose it's cos they are getting a bit more real and getting away with more violence and gore.

I'm not sure if this counts, but Oblivion (I'm not sure about it due to the rating on the box saying T, but the official rating was M).
