What will be GOTY for 2011?

OT: If Skyrim isn't a buggy mess, probably that. Otherwise Portal 2 will probably be a nominee, and I assume Uncharted 3 will be as well.

Oh yeah...

Also, Oblivion and Fallout 3 were buggy messes, but those got plenty of awards, so I don't think bugs will affect anything.

If I were a betting man, I'd say Skyrim. But who knows? It wont be out for ages and we have to go on are a couple of gameplay videos put together by the developer.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it, and I'll probably be pre-ordering it. But right now it's all a lot of hype and as DNF kindly showed us, hype can kill a game.

DNF didn't have much hype. All it had was a name, no gameplay hype.

While I believe that Rage, L.A. Noire, and Deus Ex will be contenders I believe Skyrim will be Game of The Year for 2011.

Probably Skyrim will win, with what I've seen. The Witcher 2 has a shot... also, though less likely because of it's original PC exclusivity. Then comes the party of FPS's that only differ slightly, MW3, BF3. ME3 might have a shot too. I'd love to see Portal 2 win it but I doubt it. Physics based puzzle game is hard to compare to swords, magic, guns, explosions.

Now, okay, see, I'm looking forward to Skyrim as much as any Elder Scrolls fan, but nominating it for 'Game of the Year' is a little bit premature, don't you think?

You can say whatever you want about expectations, past games, gameplay trailers, demos, whatever you'd like, the simple fact is that the game has not been released yet.

Are you absolutely positive you want to state with certainty that this unreleased game deserves to be GOTY for the next four straight years?

Now certainly, I'll agree that if it lives up to even half of its expectations, it will assuredly be a frontrunner for the title. (Then again, this year's releases have been pretty crappy overall.)

Just saying, you know.

Maybe you'd like to wait for it to be released before making claims of its greatness?
