If Skyrim turns out to be good, then that. I doubt Witcher 2 can make it due to the interface being unintuitive (graphics and story do not a game make, nor is difficulty made by making the UI so retarded).
Otherwise... uhm... who knows? there's still 6 months left in the year.

Until we have the release of games like Skyrim, Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3, Assassins creed 3 and modern warfare 3. (Wow that's alot of '3's.) 2011 is definitely a year for trilogy conclusions...
Anyway my vote will probably end up going to Skyrim. I've just been waiting for it for so long since Oblivion as I'm sure many others have. Alas, it could end up sucking sort of like fallout 3>fallout new vegas did. However that is just my opinion.

A lot of people are picking Skyrim so I am going to go out on a limb and say Arkham City.

depends, are you asking what will be "game of the year" or what the best game of the year will be. i think there is a distinction to be made. best game of the year will probably be skyrim, now that ME3 is delayed. GOTY on the other hand is a different cattle of fish. Portal 2 will probably get the most "GOTY" accolades, overrated as it is, but it would be nice to see L.A. Noire come on top, or heck, if skyrim really does turn out to be a juggernaut, then it would be really awesome to see it get the accolades that i beleive it will deserve

So far? Portal 2 or Infamous are the two with my vote. Hopefully Catherine will pull some numbers.

But, since it's slated for year end, I'd expect Skyward Sword to sweep a few categories.

Even though it's been said like thousands of times already, Skyrim. And that is LITERALLY based solely on the trailer that they showed back in February.

Yes I've played Portal 2, yes I know how revolutionary L.A. Noire is, but because Skyrim's TRAILER blows those away, it's definitely going to win.

Dude, Mass Effect has transformed into a linear third person cover-based shooter with light RPG elements and an amazing story. The first one was far better than the second, considering it was a linear RPG with light third person cover-based shooter elements. Hopefully the third one will blend the two genres better, but after the whole Dragon Age 2 mess, I'm not really looking forward to anything Bioware is churning out, except maybe Old Republic.

i will concede that ME2 was a step down in the gameplay department, but to me, mass effects strengths (this goes for 1 and 2 btw) have always been in creating fantastic characters and a truly immersive universe, that i could really lose myself in. yea ME2 got a little tedius at times after a particularly long corridor of shooting, but at least bioware actually treats the characters and story and writing as important to the game, not as after thoughts. and for me personally, that's why i love mass effect, and mass effect 2, and i say, roll on ME3

Honestly, to me Skyrim is far more immersive. You ARE character, not just some puppet master pulling the strings.

Don't get me wrong, the world of Mass Effect is amazing, and the games are good. I just happen to like the open worlds of the elder scrolls games more.

well i can genuinly understand why, and dont get me wrong, i absolutely adore both. and hey, if skyrim can improve on oblivions shortcomings (namely the story, glitches and general NPC issues) then i could see it being better than ME3, time will tell i guess

Right now Portal 2 is the best "big name" game out. As ME3 is going to be out in 2012, I think Skirm will take the podium.

Taking all that in count I would love that Dirt 3 or Forza 4 got considered for GOTY, seriously those two series are doing things the right way, Forza won't be out until October but in game footage is really outstanding, plus it has the only useful implementation of kinect so far... pitty it's not for PC.
