i couple of ME2 characters will just quit because shepard only recruited them for the suicide mission, most likely: Jack Monrith grunt Zaeed Kasumi Mordin.
Legion may become a kind of ambassador for the geth to the organics, Thane goes to the citadel to die with his son, Jacob commits suicide to because he is boring(or joins up with the alliance again) Miranda will try to save her sister from cerberus(paragon ending)
that leaves Garrus and Tali, my all time favorite characters to be the starting party.

I don't think they will dump them.

We spent the entire game building a team and trying to have them survive, so why get rid of them all?

Hmmm. Maybe Shepard could somehow die and be rebuilt over the course of a few years. By then, everyone would've moved on and they'd be out of the story.

Oh wait.

That is tough. I'm pretty sure all the characters disband after the mission. Jack says something like "what I do when this is over is none of your business" which tells me the characters will make a clean cut from Shepard. Even so, I hope to god Garrus is in the game.

Maybe they will just let you choose your crew out of all the past companions you had, with room for a few additions. Whatever way they do it, I'm sure it will all make sense.

Everybody dies in another attack. Shepherd is revived by an new but equally bitchy "romantic interest."
The fans are handed the idiot ball, gladly accept it, plot holes galore.

I think one or two will stick with you as the starting two. the others will be removed in a tutorial mission, people will be forced to split up to complete the mission and be killed/kidnapped/lost and the two you keep with you will remain as your starting two

The reveal trailer shows Earth being destroyed. It could be that for a majority of the game, the only people who are affected by the Reapers are humans and their colonies/worlds. If that's how it goes down than it could be that most of Shepard's party (who will be with Shepard anyway) will be spared. For the moment anyway. There will be death though before the story is done.

I bet that your romance from ME1 will come back and will try and kill you and you new romance...which from the looks of it it's going to happen to everybody. I mean...Who honestly stuck with Ashly when you had Tali?

Hmmm... Interesting thought... What happens if you import a save in which Shepard died? o_o
You can't. Bioware said before that they want this to be Shepards story, so if he died in ME2 then your save just won't import.

The only person who I expect to be missing is Thane, and that's because he'll be dead. Unless 1) the game takes place before he expires (unlikely) or 2) a way to treat his condition has been found. Otherwise, everyone better still be on my team, because I went through a LOT of trouble to make them all loyal to me. Plus, they all know that the Reapers are still out there. I can't picture them going, "Well, good luck with that. Bye."

Now, it's possible that some of you characters die or can no longer be on your team due to opening game events (i.e. some were on Earth and didn't make it off), but we'll have to wait and see. Part of me wants to track down new characters, but the majority of me wants to keep my characters and focus more on the STORY this time instead of "building a team".

So with the new Mass effect 3 coming out you have to wonder how Bioware will suddenly cause all the characters from the last game to suddenly disappear. So what do you thnk?
Considering that getting rid of all the squad members in ME3 would render the player's efforts to make them all survive the Omega-4 mission completely pointless, I very much doubt that anything like that will happen.

Well... if anything, Shepard might have all of them sent out on various missions, and have to pick them up again while helping them finish up.

You want to know why they all go poof?
Because most of them were rentals. Jack? You really think if you didnt romance her she would have stuck around?

These people do have lives of theyer own you know.

Thane can't die, because I sexed him after Kaidan dumped me, and Bioware promised me an awkward scene where I show up with Thane at some club and Kaiden's there and they fight it out in the back alley. So, Bioware can't kill him before that happens, because we all want to watch Lt. Cmdr Boring get his neck snapped by Kermit the Assassin.

If I may digress slightly, I personally would like to know how BioWare plans to explain us being able to change our appearence/class in the third game. I can only see either:
- Another accident/near-death/revival circumstance
- Bioware FORCING you to buy ME1/ME2 (highly unlikely) - no new game feature
or, possibly:
- Shepard has to have surgery to make sure his/her implants don't fall out or something.

Anyone got any ideas?

P.S. This doesn't mean I'm not psyched for ME3, Christmas 2011 can't come quickly enough!
