I don't want to store the real game, just saving the file... well maybe save a couple games.
Your best bet is the standard 20 gb (unless you have an HDTV). I have a 20 gb can install 2 games at a time while having a few arcade titles and a bunch of saves. The only way you should get an arcade is if you can find a cheap Hdd and the price works out better going that route. The install feature is an absolute godsend. It is so nice to not have to listen to the obnoxious noise it makes while running off the disc. Most games take about 5 minutes to install and it keeps your system cooler so the RROD is not such a huge worry (since you may not get the jasper chip one).

I would go for a elite because of the bigger harddrive. It gives you space to store your games and so on. But as long as you dont pick the arcade, you should be okay.
You dont need an elite unless you plan on keeping countless movies and shows on it. I have EVERY SONG for rock band 2 and GH world tour as well as all the map packs for gears 1 and 2 and halo 3. I also have ALOT of arcade games... im talking like 10+ and I still have 5gb left on the 20gb. The standard comes with 60gb now so there is absolutly NO NEED for a 120gb hd unless you want to keep all of your games on it. I dont see the need though, halo 3 doesnt work when its installed and I notice a very small difference when i had blue dragon and Mass effect installed on load times. so really get the standard with the 60gb hd and you will be fine.
Well I have a lot of demos, 3 stored 360 games (games like bully have a significantly shorter load time when installed on the hd), and 2 original xbox games on my hard drive. I also have some videos (mostly "the guild"). Map packs and save data also take up some space. I have 10 gigs left from my 120 gig hard drive. I though the same thing you did when I bought premium, but I decided to pay for the overpriced 120 gig hd later. Im just pointing it out.

I want to buy an Xbox 360 and I'm thinking I'll have DMC4 and Halo 3, Fable 2 and other of those M rated games, but I don't know which one to buy? Should I spend my money on the arcade or save up for an elite?
Forget fable 2, Go for fallout 3 instead. It a thousand times better ad it has the oblivion factor to it.

Arcades are only good if you had a old one that died and still had all the acceseries and dont need them all again.

Here is a hint. Dont get a 360, this is going to be the 360s worst year, with no decent exclusives, the only one really being Alan Wake, and that is coming to PC any way, get a PS3, as some one who owns both, I am glad i got mine, this will truly be an awesome year for the PS3
The person is interested in already released games 2 of which are 360 Exclusive. Take your fanboy ways elsewhere. OP wants a 360, there is no mention of PS3. Now stop trying to start flamewars.
Erm...What? How is this fanboyism. I have a 360 and no PS3, but this year looks like the best one for the PS3 so far. If I was buying a next gen console now I'd go PS3. This guy wants to buy a new console, might as well give him all the options.

Anyway, as people have said, if your heart is set a 360, get standard.

EDIT: As for games:

The Orange Box
Bioshock
Mass Effect
Braid
Call of Duty 4

There are others, but these are the essecial ones.

Go with Xbox 360 standard/pro. The 60GB HDD is more than enough (the only reason my PS3's 80GB HDD is close to full is because I have every AVGN video since Atari 5200 in WMV format on it; the 10-15 installs and 150+ Rock Band songs don't come close to being the factor), and it has all the features you need (HDMI, internet, etc.).

Also, free month of Gold. Hooray.

I miss my Xbox so...

To be honest, I never saw the point in the Elite, I mean as far as I know all it has over the standard one is a bigger hard drive, which you may aswell just buy a bigger hard drive for a standard and save money.

Get a standard one. If you really need the space, then buy a bigger hard drive after you fill up the 60gb. DMC doesn't have any DLC as far as I know, and the Halo 3 map packs aren't that big either. I think a bigger harddrive would be needed if you had Rock Band or another game like it since songs take up chunks of space.

Edit: You should probably check out Left 4 Dead too

If you get the Arcade you will be screwed over big time since Halo 3 has FREE DLC (Heroic and soon the Legendary Map packs) that both take up more than the arcade 256MB memory stick.

The extra money isn't worth it for the elite (unless your a Resi 5 fan in which case the red bundle would be a good choice).

What's the red bundle? And why would I need an elite for Resident 5?

Can't see why you would need an elite to play Resi 5 (I'm managing to play it okay) :) If you really want to own a 360 with a garish colour scheme that will likely clash horriblly with everything else in your room, then go for that one. Though there may be some people out there that really, really like red, so you just don't know....

i got it!
save up until you have an elite, then by a standard (pro) one and just spend the rest on usefull shit like xbox live and extra controllers if you need them, and other stuff like that.
oh, and defintley have to the orange box and bioshock to the games list. They're like $20 each, which is an amazing price for such great games.

No. You still have to get the other awesome exclusive game Ninja Gaiden 2, and GTA, also because of the lost and damned
