Valve seem to take a deep interest in the activities of their fans

It also helps that they make consistently good titles, which makes for a happy, well-nourished fanbase

I think the two companys that love their fans the most are Bioware and Epic, then again, I don't get into JRPGs or RTSs so my opinion may be jaded.

Gonna get some strange faces with all the Molyneux hate arround but for me it was Lionhead.

They were being really open to their community, and a couple of their devs would come into #Lionhead on Quakenet and we'd talk about stuff they were doing etc. They also had webcams set arround the office online 24/7. Gave you a real look into the studio, made everything more personal, it was great.

Not much left of that though: the webcams stopped refreshing quite a long time ago and while there are still a bunch of people on the IRC channel, not much devtalk going on anymore. I blame Microsoft. ;(

The smaller studios tend to actually communicate towards the fans, make you feel welcome and your opinion, if constructive, valued.

Ska Studios&Tripwire Interactive.
The rest already behaved like a-holes to their fans at least once

Valve.

Free DLC; truly brilliant games; THE BEST FUCKING SALES EVER; Steam.

Also, Bioware. They love making their games, they make them exquisitely, and they're always looking at ways to improve. They lose points for making an MMO instead of KotOR 3 though.

Valve at least seems like the games mean something to them

Take TF2 - most maps were community made, there were no extra costs for lame expansion packs, instead it was updated along the way, and the humor in the updates show us they put effort into it.

And no other developer makes games as crompromiselessly as valve: their games are usually the best there are, and they never charge much extra for anything.

I don't know if valve loves me, but i love valve <3

There was a couple but they died and moved out of the way for bigger company's that tried to continue the series but failed miserably.

Bioware, Valve (note: Valve as in the game maker; the people running steam I am just neutral too; different departments) Blizzard (they do a damn good job adding fan requests in WoW and where cool before that) and a lot of indie devs

Easily Valve. Their whole Radio/Morse/SSTV business for Portal 2 was such extremely good marketing, and really fun to uncover their obscure clues. The thread to solve it all is a testament to that. And they, unlike most developers listen to fan input.

Infinity Ward, they gave the fanboys exactly what they wanted, something exactly the same, at least for the console gamers.

Star Fox Wii or nothing.
Well, there was a Star Fox game (not Star Fox Adventures) for the gamecube, but I suppose that was a long long time ago now. As for how they'd implement the controls, I'd be happy just to use the nunchuck control stick for movement, though using the Wiimote as an arcade joystick would'n't be too bad of an idea. If you've played metal slug anthology for wii, they have that control arrangement, so that should give you an idea of what I'm trying to say.

Valve. Name one game other than TF2 where people get updates two and a half years after release of the game without subscriptions or in-game store.

Edit: Wait... The answer: Portal.
