I wasn't exactly surprised to see the 9,001 posts about Valve, because most gamers seem to have some sort of weird obsession with them. I mean, they are a great company, and they've made six games I would describe as being great (HL, HL2, CSS, TF2, L4D, Portal), five of which are FPS's, which is a big deal for me because I hate most FPS's. Also, they're very good with free DLC and pretty regular deals and updates, and Steam is awesome, but I still think it's a bit strange that they receive such high praise from so many gamers.

Also, Nintendo deserves a mention because the sheer number of great games they've given us over the years is somewhat overwhelming. And because I'm a huge Nintendo fanboy.
I dont understand what you dont understand. What about anything that you just said dictates that Valve shouldnt recieve all of the love that it recieves?

...so yeah my answer was Valve...

DICE? Bullshit, their useless punkbuster crap, and their utter faliure at making Battlefield Heroes a balanced, FREE TO PLAY game put them low on my list.

I believe Bungie and Valve deserve the applause. Both companys do more for their fans than just give them games. Both love and "play" with their fans (not like a predator would play with it's prey before it eats it), but a loving, playful play.

The fact that I worded that post terribly. I meant to say that I think that they're pretty good, and they release good games and all that, but most people seem to think that they can do no wrong and are the ideal developer, and I don't really understand that. They're certainly not perfect, as HL2 Episode 1 and L4D2 demonstrate, and there are better companies.

I think, besides the long spaces between release dates, Valve really takes the cake of questionable existance.

i'd say Taleworlds because they rock !

also, note the big difference between the sucky Frodogorn pic they used versus the independent expansion they'll soon release:

Sorry, guys, but why is everyone saying Valve?
As far as most of their games interest me (and that is - machinima purposes), they have been pretty fucking evil, and their lack of willingness to take actions similar to the ones by Microsoft in this are make them pretty stingy.
I'm intrigued, what have they done against Machinima? Sure, it doesn't really seem possible to make it in the Half Life games (although there's always Gary's Mod) but that doesn't make them "evil" especially as machinima is a tiny tiny part of the game audience. Or are they deliberately screwing you guys over?

Does not exist.
The companies set out to make money and there are companies that want to make fans happy, but their first concern - is making money.
Unless they're indie. Or insane.
I think the opposite. All video game companies want to make people happy. They probably started out with a bunch of guys who loved games themselves and thought they could bring a great deal of enjoyment to people with their own contributions. Naturally, they have to make money - but they make money so that they can continue to make games - not the other way around.

A few years ago, I would have said Nintendo, but now... Now they seem more interested in selling half-baked party games.

Soooooo... I WANT to say Bungie, but the quality of their games hasn't exactly been to stable either...

o_O Maybe all of the developers are out to get us.

Closest 2 I can think of are Bioware and Valve, but those can be a bit iffy at times too.

Valve and Bioware come to mind.

Valve just loves to work with their community, and will even help put out maps for them. Just look at TF2 to see their dedication to fostering a community, they really like their fans.

Bioware is also a good choice. They talk to their community and try to create a truly unique experience with their games based off player feedback. Case and point, Mass Effect ----> Mass Effect 2.

Bungie, Bioware and id Software.

Bungie is really nice to their community.
Bioware is...Bioware.
id Software has QuakeCon and usually listens to their fans.

Bioware and Bungie. Both seem to really value and listen to their individual communities and make improvements where necessary. Bioware have high expectations of the quality of their work and it really shows.

Blizzard. When I played WoW, I wasn't liking myself at the time so I browsed to one of their dev talks where they discuss a class (in this case it was the druid) and talked about balance and intentions, etc. Every response after the initial discussion post was 100% unadulterated bitching and hatred. Blizzard's willingness to endure their "fans" time after time only proved that their love was unconditional.

I think Bungie is pretty fun with it's community. I don't know what the standard on this sort of thing is, though.
They're very cool with their staff, and casual Monday is like every day at the office for them.

(wish I could work there).

As for the fans, I don't think they have a heart big enough to care for the gelatinous creatures that live off Xbox Live, I don't think anyone could...=/

Valve, seriously what game company actually supports mods and even releases them. Also their 'leaking' of the Meet the Spy was hilarious XD

Also Rare used to care a great deal about their fans, especially with their scribes column.
