Sorry, guys, but why is everyone saying Valve?
As far as most of their games interest me (and that is - machinima purposes), they have been pretty fucking evil, and their lack of willingness to take actions similar to the ones by Microsoft in this are make them pretty stingy.
Elaborate please, Microsoft is forcing them too sell their free patches DRM.

Ubisoft, for making such a great DRM to let us know that they really care about stopping pirates and making gamers happy!

In all seriousness, I'm gonna have to go along with everyone else and say Valve.

Blizzard, free content patches for 9 year old games.
Valve as well, for also supporting their games, without making every little thing a paid DLC.

Bungie and Valve get huge props from me for going the step beyond. Both of em have to deal with shitheads who call themselves fans but shit all over the company when they don't get exactly what they want. Ex, Valve with the LFD2 fiasco, TF2 in multiple updates (halos/idling/unlock system) and Bungie with... well half of Xbox Live.

Both studios have to deal with a lot of crap in order to interact so much with their true fans and so they both get loads of respect.

I'm intrigued, what have they done against Machinima? Sure, it doesn't really seem possible to make it in the Half Life games (although there's always Gary's Mod) but that doesn't make them "evil" especially as machinima is a tiny tiny part of the game audience. Or are they deliberately screwing you guys over?
You know that disclaimer thing-y that Microsoft allows to put in the end of all Halo-created videos? Well, that allows the creators (i.e. Rooster Teeth) of the videos to get by without any copyright claims and even lets them earn money.
Valve didn't have one and, upon being asked by machinima makers, refused to allow them freely work on their engine.
To put it simply, those guys single-handedly choked everyone who intends to make movies there and didn't give any explanation.
Again, that's not exactly evil and it's a small part of community but I find that action somewhat unjustified,

Valve loves their PC fans. I don't think they give a fuck about anyone else.
Thier fans are PC players. They started out as a PC Developer, and thankfully are one of the few studios who have stuck with thier main priority being that group - unlike alot who've run off to milk the lucrative cow that is the console war, whilst giving lip service to the PC crowd that birthed them.

Valve flip that around, concentrate on the PC/Modding commuities which made them great (CS started as a HL mod, which now must have made them alot of money) whilst throwing out console ports when bugged by the publisher.

Which means, technically, this qualifies them even more for a "Developer who treuly loves its fans" - it loves them enough to not want to run off after another group of fans in an attempt to steal thier money. Unlike, say, Nintendo...

Cyan. They brought back Uru Live because the community wanted it, and though the open source thing didn't happen as planned (it wouldn't surprise me if Ubisoft were somehow behind it), they still brought back the City to the fans, and added more content for a game that doesn't cost anyone a dime.

Also Paradox. Because I just hope it to be true.

Ahahahaha, good one.

You're not serious are you? I really hope not.

They are ALL money grabbing corporations. They couldn't give a shit about the fans, they just make good games because that is what sells. Why the lack of splitscreen multiplayer? IT PUSHES MORE COPIES.

I mean seriously, if anything, developers hate their fans.

I'm going to just come out and say it, Sonic Team.

They mess up a lot, but they're trying to give the fans what they want.

Fans wanted 3D Sonic games with more characters than Sonic playable, we got the Sonic Adventure games.

Fans wanted a new Sonic with crazy levels similar to the older games, but with a twist added to the gameplay, we got Sonic Heroes.

Fans wanted a game based around Shadow, we got Shadow the Hedgehog.

The Sonic R nostalgics wanted another Sonic racing game, we got Sonic Riders.

Now they're giving into popular demand for a 2D Sonic game with Sonic 4.

I think they really try to give the fans what they want, but can't execute it so well anymore these days.

I'm going to have to go with Blizzard, Bioware and CdProjekt.
CDProject really blew me away when they listened to the gripes about The Witcher, rewrote hundreds of lines of dialogue and redid the voice acting, as well as added two new adventures. Then gave it for free to the people who already purchased the game.
