The seven samurai.

What? No one I know has seen it..
Kurosawa is the shit. Let no one tell you different.

I'm a big fan of The Boondock Saints but that's a cult classic. The most recent non-mainstream movie I loved was Moon. I'm also a huge fan of Stranger Than Fiction.

Love and Death, probably my favorite Woody Allen film. Nobody I know has seen it, and I've only seen it referenced once.
It has enough slapstick antics, humorous dialogue, and subtle sight gags to facilitate multiple viewings, as well as incessant quoting.

Some I would have included myself. I personally loved The Ghost Writer and Buried from last year. Great movies. Also, as a personal favorite in terms of film altogether, Barton Fink is a phenomenal movie that I'm sure that no one I personally know has seen.
I agree with you on your agreement with Woodsey. But I have to disagree with you on buried and the Ghost Writer. I found them both to be pretty bad for very different reasons.

Define "not mainstream" though. That's very broad.

Anyway, ones I can think of off the top of my head that I'm a total geek for: The Hitcher, Don't Look Now, Suspiria, Rampage (I know; an Uwe Boll movie. BUT IT KICKS ASS! Check it out.), if they count as non-mainstream then Romero's original Dead trilogy, Peeping Tom, the original Black Christmas--

Wow I really have a thing for horror, don't I?

Donnie Darko

lulz. It's probably the most mainstream "cult-hit" ever.

Hm. How popular is The Shawshank Redemption? Favorite movie ever.

Equilibrium.

It may be one of those "this movie was really only pretty good instead of amazing but I like it because no one has seen it" type of things, but Goddamn.

Movie is the shit.

People in this thread are mentioning films like Avatar and Donnie Darko, even the Shawshank Redemption. Immensely popular films, I don't know what you're on about. Anyway, my favourite film is Dead Man.

Pretty much what the topic title says, is there a movie that not many people have heard of that you really like to watch and sometimes you don't tell people because they might judge you? Not here! *pulls shirt collar awkwardly* But do share, I'm looking for less mainstream movies to watch :)
And my movie that I love to watch is Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. It's a kid's movie but it's ridiculously good and I love Toy Story, so win :)
How is a Buzz lightyear not right in the middle of the mainstream? One movie that I LOVE to watch, which very few people have actually heard of is The Foot Fist Way. Starring Danny McBride, directed by Jody Hill. So funny. I also love Jody Hill's other film, Observe and Report. Alot of people didnt like it, didnt think it was at all funny, I say (as I say with all things) if you didn't like it, you didnt get it.

Oh, also Scent of a woman with Al Pacino, it won some awards but i dont think it was ever that widely spread really.
Yet it was a truly great movie. I'm not really sure what it means to be "mainstream."

My own entry for this one though would have to be: Justice League: New Frontier. Outstanding film with probably one of the best endings (as well as unintentional cameos I guess?) I have ever seen.

BEST MOVIE EVER.[footnote]In my opinion.[/footnote]
This for sure.
Also, Requiem for a Dream. That movie will forever by on my list of best movies ever. If you haven't seen it, go watch it now, but prepare to be depressed.

I love Cannibal Holocaust. Lots of animal abuse, and there's quite a few lessons to learn as well.

Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter.

Because pretty much all the reasons to love it are right there in the title.
