Basically, everyone argues simultaneously that their area is both 'shit' and better than where everyone else from.
An example: when you ask a British person about their native town, but will be unable to use the word "shit", and not in the "it's the shit!" kind of way either.
However, if I say that their area is terrible from an outside perspective, they will often get defensive of their area.
English people like negative, dark humour for the most-part. As a nation, we like to mock ourselves, and everyone else. We admit we have huge flaws, but we're good enough to laugh at them as often as we show shame for them. We're considered a little more secular than some people, a little more guarded, but we're no-where near as sarcastic as the media portrays us.
Also, no-one likes the Queen, alright? We take pride in hating everything distinguishing about our country; the monarchy, the changeable weather, what is considered our decline, everything.
That's what I'd say, anyway.
