Also, I never said you aren't allowed or shouldn't judge people or bands.I wish I had an imp said:Haha, you have an interesting way of thinking, and I can't deny that youre right or wrong cuz I agree with some parts and disagree with some other parts! But leave that lame 'common man' junk at the door, cuz you're already judging people simply based off an opinion they posted on one site out of millions on the internet, without ever meeting them face-to-face. No offence, it just irks me when people raise their ego to heights without any apparent reasonjboking said:Common man, that is the basic rule of reality. 95% of everything is shit, and that includes underground/indie music. I would also argue that there were still a lot of shit bands being pushed in the past as well. You really can't help them pushing some shit bands when 95% is shit. it's just gonna happen. Just be happy that bands like Franz Ferdinand are getting pushed by Apple and even some television networks and getting it into the mainstream.I wish I had an imp said:snip
I also find one other thing interesting. For every one of us that says "such and such" band is shit, there will be one person saying they're great. For every one of us that says "Such and such" band are godly, there will be one person saying they're terrible. You know what's amazing about all of this. We are all correct.
Edit: I realize the problem now, I wrote "Common man" instead of "Come on man," my bad.
the reason people sing about their depression is because it's a great way to get those painful emotions out and make things easier, sort of how metal and mosh pits are a great way to get out aggression and anger..i know because i do it, and it helps more than a lot of people realize..however bands like Nickleback can shove it, because they used to be god, then sang about nothing other than women as toys...and bands that sing about drugs can shove it too because nobody cares that Tool "must've been high...high....high"I wish I had an imp said:Also, everyone now sings about their depression, drugs, or women as toys (most of which I doubt even happened).
The difference from then to now is that 16-25 year old kids would be rocking to Sabbath/Zeppelin/Elvis/Whoever, and their parents' generation would whinge about it. Nowadays, it's the 16 to 25 year olds that make the most noise, while their 10 to 15 year old siblings go and buy the CD's.ClaptonKnophlerHendrix said:Dude thats what people said in the 50's 60's 70's up to now. Each generation has new music which some people find better or worse. People burned Elvis records because they said it was sinful but it was just a reflection of the new societies value, as is today.
I completely agree with this. Whining about what you don't like won't change anything.Sporky111 said:People in general just need to stop worrying about what other people are listening to and just listen to what you like. There really is no point of discussion here except for bashing other peoples' tastes in music because it's different from yours, which really makes you just as blind as the people who never stray from the top 40.
Seconded.FeverSK said:I have no idea what are you talking about, I never listen to mainstream music. That's the rule of thumb for any music fan today.
A tip for you: the vast majority of mainstream music has always been shit. Whoever claims that the music of the 60's was "the good old days", or that "they don't make music like that anymore" is incredibly naive. Music doesn't change, it may evolve slightly to accomodate with the times, but there are a hell of a lot of bad assumptions people make. With the advent of the internet, I would even say that there is more great music out there, you just have to know where to look.I wish I had an imp said:Yeah, I have! I listen to it, but I guess where I'm really aiming this at is towards mainstream music
