You don't need to be drunk to have fun by a long shot. That said,getting drunk is still a nice feeling if you don't go too overboard.For me its also kind of a cultural thing. We have a tendency to get pretty pissed here in NZ :).

This derives from the fact that people associate drinking with being 'in' or mandatory for looking good and cool. You wanna be cool? Take up a martial art or something. Drinking your guts out and making your liver wanna chestbuster you is not something I like.

There are myriads of occasions that I have had fun going out without alcohol. Besides, alcoholic drinks often come with CO2 and I hate it cause it makes my tongue fuzzy and burns my nose when I burb.

I've never found the attraction of drinking ridiculous amounts of alcohol. I enjoy the odd Guinness every now and then, but that's it.

I've been brought up with alcohol, even got given small cups of beer when I was a toddler. As such, I don't give a shit about alcohol now I'm in my twenties, because it's never been a taboo.

I justify not drinking even more by living in a student city with two universities - the ammount of drunken pricks every night is fucking ridiculous. I actually kind of pity the poor bastards, being let off a leash after being told it's bad for them for so long that they just have to get smashed, fucking pillocks.

Simple fact, it's fun! It is, it makes you feel happier more talkative, less shy, able to do things you previously wouldn't, an excuse to just be silly. People who say they don't like the taste just haven't tried the right alcohol, of course you wont like it if all you've tried is Bud Light! You realise how stupid that is, I ate at Mac Donalds once therefore all burgers are crap?

I'm a very shy person, lacking in confidence and I have a stuttering problem. Alcohol fixes all of this for me, so long as I choose the right amount and this is very important for anyone.

OH and there's always drinking games, any of you nay sayers, you play the Big Lebowski drinking game and come back to me ;) Taking a shot every 5 seconds because John Goodman is yelling "Shut the fuck up Donny" is hillarious!

Mainly social really. It can relax you and gatherings quickly become less formal when booze is involved. Also it can be quite delicious as I do enjoy a nice pint of ale every so often.

Binge drinking is a totally different beast. It becomes a contest where the point is getting drunk. Something I never understand as at a party the drink isn't what I'm there for. Binges never end well for me as I'm left with a bunch of people falling into things and being sick everywhere.

It is good to be drunk! Also don't drink that 'bud light' unless you have a vagina, people with testicles can take a drink with more than 0.5% alcohol. Your friend is 21 so of course he wants to drink as much as possible as hes only just become legal. In the civilised world we get to get hammered at 18 so by the time we reach 21 our training should be complete and more fun filled alcohol can be consumed before the innevitable vomit.
Who cares if you get a hangover - a bacon sandwich cures hangovers in less than 30 seconds! Unless you are a pussy vegetarian then I don't have a cure for you..perhaps tofu or giving money to starving goats or something.

I have compiled a handy graph to give you a run down on what to drink and what not to drink if you are male;

Budweiser and Bud light = vagina
Vodka and coke = vagina
Alcopops = vagina

Real Ale = Testicles

Oh forgot about fun drinking games.

Find an awesome manly film of people getting killed not some pussy love story or animated film
e.g Zulu

Organise into two teams, one side are the British soldiers and the other are the Zulu warriors

Gets you very pissed plus you get to watch the greatest film in the world.

Then there is the centurion. Basically you need to drink 100 shots of beer (try not to use bud 'vagina' lite or you wont have as much fun) in 100 minutes. There is even a timer online to countdown to the next load.

I like the taste, I like to get drunk and I like to get drunk socially. But I do not like getting drunk with the " it's not a party without beer" guy.

There's no problem with booze. It's just some of the people who drink it. And those are the ones that generally stand out and give it a bad name.

I had a phase where I liked drinking alcohol. Grew out of it. It just tastes like crap... Same thing with coffee. Who actually likes the stuff?

There are a lot of alcoholic beverages that taste better than beer, so don't let that turn you off. Aside from that, it can be enjoyable to have some drinks with friends, although I'm not fond of big parties with a bunch of people I don't know.

well, many would say that alcohol releases a person's 'id', saying that drunk people act entirely on impulse and instinct, they do what they want, and that they are not nearly as inhibited by their worries, fears, etc. this principle alone has almost lead me to consider that i should start drinking, lol

.... Granted I'm 18 and the only alcohol I've had was a Bud Light that an uncle gave me. But when I drank it, it tasted horrible and said "Why do people like this stuff?"
If, instead of one Bud Light with your uncle, you had a two-four of, say, Moosehead Lager with few of your buddies, then you'd understand. As for the taste... I think over time you begin to associate the cool bubbly hopps flavour with good times.

Also,... Drinking age of 21 is a bit ridiculous. That means you Yanks are in college for like, two years before you can DRINK. No wonder they all go to Mexico, which I'm sure is much safer.

I been drinking and smoking since 16 or so, but I learned my lessons back then about moderation.. But I wonder if a drinking age of 21 just makes people less responsible with alcohol later in life, since getting experience at a younger age is less acceptable.

I love drinking at parties with friends. Alcohol can really loosen people up. We can have a good time without it (happened plenty of times) but it's fun drinking in groups of people. Alcohol has a different effect on different people. I hate beer personally. Disgusting stuff. I do like certain other times of alcohol though, mostly liquor.

the drinking age of 21 is purely for health reasons. a person's brain is not fully developed until their early to mid 20s, and alcohol interferes with the brain's development
