What's the big deal about drinking?

I enjoy drinking. I'm 16 and I don't really care that much.

I don't drink to the point of being near-comatose, but I first started drinking when I was 13 and I got bored of "drinking to get drunk". Now, I tend to drink just enough to get me tipsy and confident but not stumbling around everywhere. I learned my limits pretty quickly. I do occasionally drink til I'm drunk, I'll admit, but only at parties where I know mostly everyone there.

Also, there's a fair few drinks I enjoy the taste of. Sours, mickey finns, vodka (in the right mixer), jager (surprisingly), and some kinds of cider.

It's strange how easily I can get alcohol. I haven't been ID'd for a few months now, and I tend to get into pubs and bars fairly easily.

I asked my friends this exact same question (Infact, i think i made a similar thread, but not the same) and the response was that it "Helps the night to be 'fun'" I dont think alcohol is required to have fun. Its good in moderations at a nice quiet place though.

Not at all. But it can help - you're more relaxed, more sociable, can have more fun. Binge drinking and getting smashed all the time is pointless, but getting tipsy and drinking in moderation is a good laugh. Nothing helps a social gathering get going better than cracking open a few drinks.

Especially for some people whose brains just won't switch off when completely sober....

Alcohol is a poison that confuses your brain into thinking its good for it.
Only if you get addicted or drink heavily like every other day. In moderation it has like zero negative effects.

no exceptions^
It's been a long time since I read such a low quality lie.

Sounds like you just hang out with idiots.
Don't take my word for it, you only learn from experience. It only takes one young virgin drinker to fuck up a party by doing something stupid.

If you don't know anyone like that, your that person.
(When you quote someone, its polite to put in the whole quote and also attempt to read and understand the message)
1. Sure, there have been instances where we've had to call an ambulance cause some idiot got paraletic, but normally when we invite noobs, we keep an eye on them. It's called being responsible.

2. We try not to invite fuckers. 1 occurred due to someone mentioning the party to an idiot ned who downed 250ml of vodka or something crazy.

3. I quote only the points I address. Makes things more concise for others.
1. Read my post. I was talking about being responsible, and the younger a person is, and if they lack experience with something the chances of something bad happening increases. especially if the people around that person are just about as inexperienced.

2. fuckers will show up, its a matter of time, weather you invite them or not.

3. You aren't comprehending my post. The whole thing is a single piece of information that was only made to help people not fuck up their first time drinking by not using common sense or partying around equally retarded people.

4. You didn't address anything, you just called it a lie. Next time you try to address something explain why you think that way.
1. I read your post. And from my personal experience, I have decided to disagree with you. My friends and I take care of younger people we know might do something stupid. I have never been to a party where everyone was 'inexperienced'.

2. House parties, as well as the fact I live in a rather rural area with many suitable camping locations has resulted in a single 'fucker' appearing only once, the police being called, him being taken away and the police praising us for our actions.

3. I'm sure the people your advice was aimed at do not consider those they intend to party around retarded.

4. If I felt I could not address your statement properly, I would have said nothing at all. So what you have said in point 4 is essentially pointless - I am not suddenly going to conclude that I am a liar. As I have said many times, my disagreement with you stems from
differing personal experience. Take your own advice and read posts.
1.You read it but you don't comprehend it. Its advice.

2. That single fucker proved my point, thank him for me

3. People will go to house parties without thinking about the things that will get them in trouble. Just like that kid who stumbled into your party. Telling them to use their heads and understand that having inexperienced drinkers around themselves being an inexperienced drinker will cause some, if not a few to turn into retards. If your so damn experienced how come I'm offending you so much? I'm talking about stupid things happening when stupid people are drunk.

finally:
4. Proper had nothing to do with it, you just called me a liar. If you wanted to be proper you would have had a real argument under your first response and not ended up on the suspended list for trolling.

This question came from me talking to my friend about what he was going to do during Spring Break he replied "I'm going to throw a Spring Break party at my house with so much alcohol." And I asked "Do you really need alcohol to have fun at a party?" And he replied with a "Of course; you can't have a party without beer." (He's 21 so he can legally drink)

And it got me thinking what's with all the hype about alcohol? Granted I'm 18 and the only alcohol I've had was a Bud Light that an uncle gave me. But when I drank it, it tasted horrible and said "Why do people like this stuff?"

So the question is What's the deal with drinking? Why do people drink at all?
Personal Opinion
Oh bugger! You wanker.
Anyway you're never gonna find out if you sit in your room every evening and lie to yourself that Skyping is equal to social contacts. My point is that you should try it ,although it may be to late.Anyway think about it this way: when you're 69 years old you're gonna say to yourself "I wonder what it is to be drunk" and then BAM reality slaps you across the face.Anyway my point is that you should try it atleast once.

Reality:
People drink as much as they want usually and still if you never start drinking it's your buissnes only. ( I hope I wasn't rude )

P.S I wasn't able to read the comments afther page 1 due to lack of time.

Well, that's not always true, I know lots of people I've been with that was "first time drunk" and never acted like idiots. So that "theory" of yours is a little flawed.

Ontopic: I don't mind people around me drinking, as long as they don't drag me into trouble, I'm more the sober/a little tipsy "babysitter" kinda guy, watching out for stupid and potentially dangerous stuff that's about to happen with my drunk friends.
[SUB]I'm bothered by constant headache, so a real hangover would probably crush my head forever, therefore, I am never drunk.[/SUB]

Everyone has different reasons, some people do it because they like being buzzed, some do it because they want to be social, some do it because they actually like the taste, and some do it because they want to forget. There's a whole bunch of reason why people drink, and they're all stupid.

Drink lowers inhibitions, and for me that's a deal breaker. I was at someone's 18th party the other night and I'd forgotten my ID so I couldn't drink. Most. Boring. Thing. Ever.

Plus I can only dance with drink.

If, instead of one Bud Light with your uncle, you had a two-four of, say, Moosehead Lager with few of your buddies, then you'd understand. As for the taste... I think over time you begin to associate the cool bubbly hopps flavour with good times.

Also,... Drinking age of 21 is a bit ridiculous. That means you Yanks are in college for like, two years before you can DRINK. No wonder they all go to Mexico, which I'm sure is much safer.

I been drinking and smoking since 16 or so, but I learned my lessons back then about moderation.. But I wonder if a drinking age of 21 just makes people less responsible with alcohol later in life, since getting experience at a younger age is less acceptable.
the drinking age of 21 is purely for health reasons. a person's brain is not fully developed until their early to mid 20s, and alcohol interferes with the brain's development

You act as thou the drinking age really stops any college students from drinking in the first place. You'd be surprised with some of the money made from house parties around here because they can provide large amounts of beer to underage college freshman and sophomore students.

Either that or some people have fake ID's too.

Either way the 21 year old drinking age is a complete joke.
hey, i'm not saying that it works, i'm just saying that it was implemented for a reason

What is the big deal?
I wake up and have a bit from the tap.
All throughout the day I go from tap to tap getting my fill.
It is good for you.
I personally like mine "on the rocks" as is the parlance.

I mean, it is good to have a pint before a meal, y'know as an appetite suppressant so you do not over eat. I think it is suggested you have at least eight glasses a day in fact, AT LEAST!

We are talking about water right?

...

thats pretty much it. People who are recently legally allowed to drink normally OVERdrink.
Having a glass here and there is fine, but when you feel drunk, you should stop. That's your brain telling you "sloooowwww dooowwwwnnnn"

Personally I dont like the taste of alcohol, regular old pop is fine with me. And the idea of getting drunk does not, in any way appeal to me. lose control of what you're doing and do something you'll regret, forget what you did, and get a killer headache afterwards? no thanks. But hey, you want to drink? then go for it. Just give me a virgin rum and coke and i'll be fine.

I've tried a good deal of drinks - wine, beer, hard alcohol, and an entire trip to Mexico's worth of mixed drinks - and all of it tastes like piss and cough syrup to me. I don't quite get how people find that to taste good but... eh, whatever you like drinking. Also, I don't need to drink to be perpetually dizzy and to wake up in the mornings with no memory of what I did the night before and to find everything very bright and loud, so getting drunk seems to be entirely pointless to me xD

As for "opening up"... I don't enjoy drunk people. They annoy me extremely quickly, and they act like a complete idiot (we gave a drunk friend a toilet paper shirt that he forgot about 14 times in 3 hours...). Other drunks get extremely depressed and, knowing my personality, I don't care to ever do much of anything.

I'm poor, crazy, and am going to die anyways - I'd rather save my money and life for something better... like Pokemon! :D

My friends and i have had many discussions like this before. I have also talked to kids from other countries when we visit here and they actaually think its weird that we are so obsessed with drinking. Like an excahnge student from germany(yes she was hawt) came over here to America and didn't understand why people thought it was a big deal. Granted i'm only 16 but yea pretty much every event i still go to some one has to bring some alchol or people think they can't officially call it a party. Also there is no chance in hell of the drinking age lowering because everyone who would be legal would get wasted out of there minds for a while since they know it wouldn't matter because they would be legal.
