I bought the orange box for the 360 and was not impressed with any of it.
See, there's the problem.
I would try it on PC but I don't like the idea of forking over another $20 just to (potentially) be disappointed.

VALVe is a great gaming company because they actually enjoy making and playing games. They embrace the modding community and its innovations, and they have a sense of humor that no other developer can match, in my opinion. Not to mention steam...

And I think one game a year is almost excessive. I'd rather a studio spend years upon years creating a masterpiece. Companies that understand this like VALVe, and Blizzard, have earned the fan-bases and success the enjoy.

The thing I don't get is that people always complain about how long they take to relase games, then last year the release L4D2 and some people were boycotting it beacause it was released "Too Soon" Am I missing somthing?

But anyway, Quality is better then quantity. You are entitled to your oppinion but so are people who like Valve. Also you should really play Portal.
It wasn't Episode 3.

I'm a Valve fangirl myself, and I'm not clamoring for it to be released anytime soon. A, there's Portal 2 coming, and B, I want them to keep the standard up. If it takes a while, I can replay HL2 and all.

I agree, to a certain extent. All the Valve games I've played I thought were extremely average and overrated, except Portal. But it all comes down to what people like. If people like Valve and there incredibly average games, more power to them. It doesn't affect me in anyway.

Granted I haven't played Portal...
I recommend you play Portal. It is a short, fun, funny puzzle game, that is well worth the praise it gets.

What's the big deal? Their games are fun. They love their fans. Look at all the updates for TF2. Look at the DLC for L4D. (The L4D2 boycott never happened, it's all a lie.) They truely care for us. They may take a while to get their games on the shelves, but they want it to be perfect for us. They don't want to let us down.

You disagree?! YOU HERETIC! That's called an opinion, everyone has one, but none are exactly the same.

Agreed.

HL1 was excellent for its time. I've tried to play HL:S recently and didn't have nearly as much fun as I expected. Still, the original HL is truly a classic. (OF was a bit better though).

But that was basically their last game!

TF, CS, CS:S, DoD, DoD:S, TF2, L4D, L4D2, Portal - none of these is Valve's. All of these games have begun like a mod or an independent project, and Valve just bought them later. I'm glad they did so with Portal; CS:S is also a good job, but otherwise, why the hell such praise?

And HL2, well that was kinda sorta passable for being a new thing... EP1 was just utter crap and EP2 I didn't even finish, I got so freakin' bored.

Also, to spend 10 years to create a mod of a mod of a mod (TF2) just to remove grenades is really ridiculous.

Yeah, I could rant about Valve for weeks.
Not to be critical, but what have you been smoking? I know for a fact that VALVe made TF2, L4D, L4D2, etc. I know this because most of their other games had been put to the side-burner during their production/development. Such as Half-Life 2: Episode 3. They did L4D2 instead of working of Episode 3.

EDIT: Also, heres to hoping that HL2: E3 is not the next Duke Nukem: Forever. Those who know "VALVe Time" know what I mean.

Alright why do we all seem to love Valve so much? They take a long time to produce a single game and yet they are never really criticized if the game was not worth the wait.
Probably because the gaming community at large has yet to find a Valve game that wasn't worth the wait. (Left 4 Dead 2 is the freak exception, because it was shoved out in less than a year, and has since become the designated buttmonkey for Valve games.)
While it may not have been as good, the thing about L4D2 is it's still not bad.
It mightn't be their greatest game ever, but it's still alot of fun and has kept me engrossed for about 6 months and counting.

I love them because they are one of the last developers who take the PC seriously as a gaming platform. Most other PC games are just shoddy ports of their console brothers. But Valve games were born and raised on PC's, and thats where they thrive.

Plus Steam is the only DRM I will accept. I hate having to use online activation, but not needing to stay online, plus the fact that they offer absolutely amazing deals every week, with even better deals on the holidays (Remember the Christmas sale, where basically every game was half off, with most being under $10 USD?).

Plus they actually care and listen to their community. They don't release games that often, but when they do, the games usually innovate in astounding new ways.

Not to mention giving extremely talented modders jobs, budgets and teams to make their mods all they can be, along with the fact that each game receives amazing support far after release.

Yeah, I love Valve for those reasons. You may not, but thats your opinion. If you don't like them, there isn't much we can do.

Oh, and about the Team Fortess 2 thing with having no one on, there were 500 servers last time I was on, half of them populated with at least 20 people. And that was in the middle of the day, I have no doubt that those numbers double every night, and maybe even triple on the weekends.

I'd say it's valves relationship with its playerbase...
Valve seems to be the least douchiest developer currently. Look at other corperations who are whoring themselves out for money, then compare them to valve. Sure, Valve isn't perfect, but until they start doing some really pathetic shit, people are going to keep loving them...
Plus most of the games they have released are still being played today.
Many people play the half life series. Garry's mod is immensly popular, and Valve even hired the guy to work for them. They supported the Counter Strike mod made for HL1, and released Source. I could go on and on.

Oh, the Christmas deal. That was CRAZY. TF2 for what, 2 or so dollars?

EDIT: On a side note, a few months ago, I played HL, the origional one, without the Source engine. I was amazed to find that, on the Deathmatch, people were still playing it.

I only like Tf2. Valve is an ok developer. I hated HL 1 and 2 and portal was ok. Left 4 dead has it's moments

So you don't like their games...is that a reason you feel the need to go on an Anti-Valve rant here. I happen to enjoy their games for what they're worth especially Portal it was simple, short and fun and made me laugh at several points. Also i think you're forgetting about Left 4 Dead which is a great multi-player FPS zombie shooter.

I enjoy playing their games and Steam is incredibly useful. They put a large amount of work they've put into their games too. TF2 for example is being constantly updated, and their other games are almost always of a brilliant quality. I just wish this wasn't at the expense of development time.

You criticised Valve on these forums? You, my friend, have behemoth sized balls of steel.
b-b-b-balls of steel! (couldn't help myself)

Don't like valve, never enjoyed their games with the freak exception of portal which I don't consider a valve game. (if you know the story behind the portal dev team you'll know why)
I agree on Portal. I loved it (still loved the rest of the games, but Portal just has a special place in my heart). However, the game idea was before they got recruited into the VALVe team. It was called Nebecular Drop, if I'm correct? Anyways, they developed Poral while in the VALVe team.

Although it did seem a bit unlike VALVe. A really short game. But an extremelly satisfying one.
