Whats the deal with all the MW2 hate threads?

You have heard our opinion on MW2. A lot of people hate it, some people like it, and others think it's just mediocre. There are tons of comments spread around tons of MW2 threads, and I don't think we need another MW2 thread.

OT: It was OK, I really loved some bits but it had its head up in its ass sometimes.

to be honest, I didn't want to do this seeing that there's too much MW2 threads, but when I hear people making fun of the game for the worst of reasons on the planet I try to step in. I'm not a fan boy though, where I defend the game for every flaw it makes, If their argument makes sense and doesn't just nit pick at everything I am ok with them. But seeing the game bashed so much for the worst of reasons every second, I just feel it's right to defend it then against those accusations.

And that is how flamewars are started. Some elitist comes and claims that something is shit, and people like you try to defend it. Now, I'm not saying you are a bad person, defending something that is wrongly accused is a good thing. But that only feeds the fire and soon enough you have an argument. He's not going to back down because he hates that game and doesn't understand how someone could like it while you know he is wrong and will not back down until he becomes less biased.

Yes, people wrongly accuse MW2 of being awful, you're not alone in thinking that. But you can't help it. The best thing to do is to just suck it up, and live with it until someone confronts you face to face about how he thinks a game sucks when you know it doesn't. Then you use strategy to get the guy pissed and then report him so he is punished.

It's because people get too hyped for their own good, they buy the game expecting a mind blowing experience and when this experience is below par they are disappointed despite it being a frankly brilliant game... I bought with indifference and was open to it and absolutely loved it. I ruined fight night round 4 for myself by getting too hyped up.

My opinion is thus:

People who don't like Modern Warfare 2 should not play it, and they should stop trying to figure out why people who do like it disagree with their personal opinions.

People who do like it should play it, and they should stop trying to figure out why people who hate it disagree with their personal opinions.

Basically, everyone should just shut the hell up and go play whatever games they happen to like.

Or at the very least, they should stop talking about it on the Escapist, because there have been way too many topics about MW2 lately.

I don't know, I haven't bothered to get it. Although, sometimes outsiders get the clearest perspective. The way I see it, the whole hate is by PC gamers who are pissed off at the server controversy, and so have decided they hate every aspect of the game as a result.

Being overhyped by a game and then becoming disappointed is your fault. You take things with a grain of salt, you check reviews online when the game is released instead of buying it at the first day, if you are still unsure you play it with a buddy or rent it.

Some people have tremendous amounts of trouble with dealing with frustration. Not only that, but they think they're in the right of telling everyone else and make everyone else feel miserable. Honestly, I can't wait to see how badly they freak out when they find out where babies come from.

On the other hand, I for one don't think the campaign was any shorter than that of MW1. Actually, I remember the same claim being made about MW1, and now it's being compared to it's predecessor? Come on, God hates hypocrisy and so do I. In fact, let's look at this through a comparative standpoint. Say you have two different drugs. One is quite strong, it alterates your normal functioning and gives you a false sense of happiness and achievement, but it isn't too strong. The other one, much more powerful, has also got a much shorter time of effect, but during the short duration of it's effects, you have experienced something close to playing The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina of Time whilst eating liquorice and listening to old school metal (or your particular vision of heaven). Which are you going to want more after tasting the two? Exactly. Even though MW2 is not perfect, the amount of amazingly mind blowing moments embedded in it is just enough for its 6-10 hours. Surely enough, they weren't the most realistic (the slope up which you jump off with the snowmobile didn't even have the inclination to make you go flying off like that (seriously, I thought I was gonna fall down the gorge and then grab onto a helicopter or something, or grab against the ice wall with the axes (WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME!), but then I thought: Hang on a minute, am I here to be just a normal soldier with no other particular purpose but to die in a nuclear explosion *SARCASM* or to be an elite soldier from one of the most advanced and prepared combat units in existance, capable of the most challenging, devil-daring feats, such as taking on a whole armed base with only one of the most badass videogame characters in recent memory as support, or running through the roofs of Brazilian favelas for dear life, only to jump off onto a helicopter ladder as a twisted version of the evacuations you had in MW1? Obviously the latter. Unfortunately, yes, it could've been longer. It always can. But then we would be annoyed that there aren't any sequels. So be thankful that we had any sequels to begin with, you whiny, ungrateful beings!

Oh, did they now? So what counts has lying now? If IW said that this system will be hacker proof and awesome even tho THEY KNEW there would be problems, that's not lying, that's just a "thinking about it"? Right, and monkeys have wings and can fly into the sun.

I was not overhyped about the game. I expected a game with the same quality has Modern Warfare 1 after seeing a few trailers and the promises IW made about their new matchmaking system. Yes, I was pissed about the removal of Dedicated Servers but I was more than happy to hear about a system which would make matchmaking and online gaming smoother. It was a possibility. Sadly, even tho IW knew there would be problems, stated that the system is bulletproof and lied to the entire PC gaming community.

I did check reviews online. Gamespot, GameTrailers and found only console reviews on Eurogamer. From all of these, GameSpot is the only one to review the PC version of MW2. They stated that, and I quite,: "Though it features a robust variety of playlists in which to ply your deadly trade, Modern Warfare 2's competitive multiplayer is still limited compared to modern standards and will likely disappoint many hardcore shooter fans. The high price point sharpens the sting of these restrictions, but the core multiplayer action is still very addictive and very rewarding. The inelegant campaign plot may make you feel like you're just along for the ride, but it is such an intense, roaringly great ride that you will be glad just to have played it."


Rent it? Firstly, can you rent games on the first, second even third day? Renting is a strange concept when it comes to the gaming industry in my country.

No. I'm angry that I payed 60 dollars for a game that didn't deliver what it promised it did.

Oh, so I should not be angry that I was lied to and ripped off. I should just say what an awesome job IW did with it's IWnet system. The lag is non existent, finding matches is as easy has 2 clicks and hackers don't run rampant. Such a great system...(Sarcasm, in case you didn't realize it)

NO! They LIED about MW2. They purposely lied about it's Multiplayer part. This is not about not liking, this is about paying 60 dollars for 6 hours of single player since the multiplayer just doesn't work has it was promised it would. Every game contains a hacker, every game is laggy, guns are overpowered.

They ripped me off. I don't hate the game, asshole. With a bit of tweaking, the game can become quite good. Balance the weapons, solve the matchmaking and lag problem, introduce a better anti hack system and you have a great game. Did IW do any of these? No, they did not. They instead choose to ignore the PC community and lie.

Oh, you're right. I should blame myself because a company wasn't able to develop a game properly and when they saw the mess they created they decided to lie about it just so they can squeeze some more $$. Totally right. You speak the truth Bruttah!

I don't get why everyone hates it so much? i mean sure it's not perfect, MW1 was better, but that doesn't automatically make it a bad game.

I have a lot of fun with this game. I think it's very well made, the length sucks a big fat hairy cock. but i still love it.
I don't know it's my opinion. I'm not trying to force my opinion on everyone else if you thought I was.But I want to hear escapist's opinion of MW2.

I am sorry did you miss the massive boycott that spewed record amounts of bile and way way too many Modern Warfare 2 threads on the Internet.
The amount the cut from the PC version was scandalous and it is exactly what happened to Halo3 massive hype backlash they hyped the game up way too much and rammed it down people's throat.

So yes some people have a valid reason for hate and you have not helped by creating yet another Modern Warfare 2 thread that has become as bad as Console War, PC v Consoles, Halo and etc threads.
