I wasn't overhyped, mainly because I pretty much knew what Peer-to-peer on PC would bring. And I have the game, and it's just about what I expected, though I admit the multiplayer is quite a bit worse.
I love the single player, the lack of leaning was annoying at first (and it still sucks, even though it isn't annoying me), but I got used to it. That and the lack of changing my field of view and such are the only things that annoyed me about SP. Spec Ops is awesome, plain and simple, same things apply for it, though. Along with needing to be online in Steam to play with a friend (no decent LAN support = very annoying, though I did know it was coming).
The MP is worse than I expected. There's lag, there's rubberbanding, and all the other perfomance-related issues, but that was all to be expected, I knew this was coming. What I didn't know was that the matchmaking system they'd given us is bugged to death, and due to this and what I presume to be way too long a wait between matches (about 1 minute) means that I've probably spent about one third of my time trying to connect to games or what have you. Then there's the party feature.
This is even worse, and has probably hogged up the most of my non-playing time. First, make a party (hope everyone can join it, which is not always the case), then join a game, then wait half a minute, then hope that IWNet doesn't fuck up, then notice that IWNet fucked up, rinse and repeat.
I'm not that much against matchmaking, and of course I was willing to give this game a try, and to a certain degree I do enjoy it. The thing is how much they fucked up this new system they're throwing at us. And also how they threw the balance they were always talking about out the window. There are about four guns worth using in the whole game. Though I suppose they balanced the snipers well.
Model 1887, as it's called, is a shotgun in MW2. It is, by far, the most overpowered weapon, you've got 12 shots in a row with each killing enemies at a longer range than all other shotguns do.
Any close range encounters, this gun will win. Unless you're reloading (an issue with all other weapons except the knife) or looking the other way you will basically just plow through your enemies. That is until you're blown up. And that will happen. A lot.
There's loads of weapons you'll basically just aim at a random spot and kill lots of people with (that is random within some sensible boundaries), or one, which is enough considering you'll have up to 5 explosions at your command, and with the scavenger perk you'll basically have endless explosions.
Explosions are better than normal weapons at killing stuff, plain and simple (barring the aforementioned Model 1887 with akimbo), and giving everyone access to endless explosives is, quite frankly, unbalancing the game. Sure, everyone can use it, but that doesn't make it balanced.
The game usually manages to be entertaining, but to me the single player and spec ops (and the fact that I knew I was going to be trying to play it during a LAN party) are the only reason I bought this game. I knew the MP would be sub-par, but considering how few games I actually buy I'm playing it (I mean, saying a game could be lots better is a shitty argument against playing it if it's still entertaining to you).
