Seriously. I started playing FFs at 7, like a lot of people. Actually, my first reaction upon seeing the box at a local retailer was "blegh, looks a crappy ass brawler or fighter". Then a friend showed it to me, and proceeded to bash my head against the wall.

Now, I'm not one of those "OMG FF7 IS DA BEST RPG EVAH!!1!!!1!111!!", I certainly like the game, but nowhere near such levels of devotion, but almost every time I see on the net an argument about FF7 being or not the best RPG, there's always a group that comes out with FF6 as being much much better.

Is it REALLY that good? I've no SNES, and I don't think it was actually ever released here (Spain), so I'd probably have to resort to emulation. Is it worth truly worth it?

Uh.. Yes. Very good. Incredible, even.

I'd recommended you find Final Fantasy: Anthology for the Playstation, if you're going to play it at all.
Plus, you get FF V, which wasn't too shabby itself.

Every character in it (except for the two optional ones) was well rounded and unique, unlike FFVII it had a great villain and story and is in my opinion the best, I would say if you can get the PS1 port or the GBA port of it to try for yourself if you have no SNES

It's at least worth a look at. By the way if you're looking for it on a SNES emulator you'll have to type it in as Final Fantasy III because that's we got it as in America.

Yeah, FF6 was the best presented game of the series. It gets brought up in the context of FF7 because the games show many similarities in theme and structure, but FF7 isn't as well defined in its world, or its tone.

Admittedly I haven't played all of FFVI yet but it really gripped me a lot more than FFVII. It's certainly very interesting.

FF6 had the best story, a villain that was both entertaining, and yet at the same time compelled you to fight him from the first time you saw him (Unlike FFXIII, where you declare war on a random group, only to find out later that you got it right by luck). It was one of the first 'Everyone gets to use magic and ruin shit with Ultima' games, letting you customize your characters, which let you use ANYONE, rather than being chained to one particular healer. Its cast was varied, its side questing was MASSIVE, and it had a charm to it not seen now a days.

Basically, it was *****'n.

Final Fantasy 6 is the most original of all the story's and its revolutionary for it time, but the only reason its so loved I think is from all the different characters and places you can go with the freedom.

Truthfully? Yeah, I like 6 a lot more than 7.

The story was pretty epic, as well as how it all played out. Each character had a story that was fleshed out nicely, and each character was unique in their own way, rather than just having a different look.

And maybe it was just me, but the world seemed much bigger, and the villain has much more of a bastard than in other games.

Yeah, I would recommend it. But that might be me just liking how the old school did things.

FFVII was the first RPG I ever played, and it truly is an amazing game: I absolutely love it.

That said, I recently played VI for the first time. And it's as good. I'm most of the way through, but haven't even beaten it yet, and already it's tied with VII for my favorite game of all time.

So yes. It's that good. A truly amazing feat of storytelling with such limited technology.

It was not just you. The world was huge, its questing and dungeons expansive, and its coliseum glorious.

Damn... now I miss that octopus...

People on the escapist have only been raving about FF6 since yahtzee said it was the last FF he liked in the FF13 review.

People ont his site rave about FF6 for the same reason they rave about valve. Because of Yahtzee.

I dunno, I really couldn't get into VI I have it on GBA and I can't say I like it all that much, I will finish it in due time though.

and For the Record I personally believe Final Fantasy V is the best in the series The story, and the history were well told and the characters and humour were lovable and ...er humourus

I do like VII but it's lands itself at my number 3 spot

GBA port? Interesting.
It's neat, but I don't recommended it - mainly for it's price. That ***** is pretty expensive.

You'll certainly get more for cheaper by going the PS1 port route.

Then again, that depends on how often you're on the move.
