What's the deal with FF6?

I personally really enjoyed and think it deserved to be experienced just as much as 7 does, both are good games in my opinion but 6 comes out on top for me. I've only played the first few hours of 7 so I can't comment much on it, but as for 6 I really liked the Characters and story. Kefka was such a magnificent bastard that I can't help but hate the guy. Though the fact that everyone can learn magic makes teaching everyone Ultimia a very game breaking strategy.

Now my impression is that 75% of the escapist's members are Yahtzee sycophants. And yes, we all know half-life is good, But anyone with eyeballs and skills in pattern-recognition can tell Yahtzee attracts the Valve fanboys.

i would like to respectfully disagree with the whole best bad guy ever, honestly i took it as such a fucking joke and i would rate that as the worst bad guy ever, sure he is powerful and a bad guy, but wow if some bad guy dressed like that came at me or my friends, i'd beat his head in for looking like a complete retard, in no way is that evil or badass, its just retarded imo

however ff6 definitly has some good fleshed out characters, despite it being 2D (im not a graphics whore but i love me some 3D )but i did enjoy it somewhat

Ignore the hype.

Honestly? Yes, its a good game.

It has a big world, lots of important things to do and places to go. Its less grindy and more story driven for rewards and powering up your characters.

A lot of what people have said thus far doesn't come till later in the game. Its a very long game and requires the majority of it to be searched out. This isn't bad unless you think its bad.

Ignore everything else. The good and the bad. People here seem to read really really hard into the game. Yes, it is a very well made game, don't get me wrong, its a favorite of mine. It has its flaws though. Its not a golden gem with a massive rich storyline. Its a good storyline, but i have my own issues with it. Hell, despite saying i love the game i get analyzed for even dear mentioning issues it has.

If you get a chance to, play, you won't regret it if you like rpgs.

Just don't go in there expecting a mind blowing experience. Go into it expecting to have fun. You will. That's all I can say.

This is one site in a million. As for why you're seeing it more now, its because a new Final Fantasy game just came out, and its on top of everyone's minds.

No, its not perfect, nothing ever is. But if there IS something close to a gem in all the Final Fantasies, its FF6 (well, my opinion I guess).

I just have a personal preference for 2D sprite RPGs. A lot of people do; thet's why they're still being made (for PC).

Is it REALLY that good? I've no SNES, and I don't think it was actually ever released here (Spain), so I'd probably have to resort to emulation. Is it worth truly worth it?

If you like JRPGs in the classic vein, it has some of the most truly interesting characters, an incredible story, and the combat can get varied enough to be interesting even after many many hours.

Seriously. I started playing FFs at 7, like a lot of people. Actually, my first reaction upon seeing the box at a local retailer was "blegh, looks a crappy ass brawler or fighter". Then a friend showed it to me, and proceeded to bash my head against the wall.

Now, I'm not one of those "OMG FF7 IS DA BEST RPG EVAH!!1!!!1!111!!", I certainly like the game, but nowhere near such levels of devotion, but almost every time I see on the net an argument about FF7 being or not the best RPG, there's always a group that comes out with FF6 as being much much better.

Is it REALLY that good? I've no SNES, and I don't think it was actually ever released here (Spain), so I'd probably have to resort to emulation. Is it worth truly worth it?

So you're saying you haven't actually read any of the many many FF7 threads we've had here and are basing your opinions based solely on the thread title. You have to be saying that because if you had actually read the threads you'd notice a distinct pattern of people pointing out FF 6 is better years before the FF13 review.
