Just my humble observation: where are these so called Yahtzee fanboys? I lurk here fairly frequently, and for the most part its not a frequent occurance to see Yahtzee fanboys about. Unless you are counting the people who quote him once, because its actually quite a relevant quote.

I have noticed a rather elitist attitude here though, but it hasn't put me off. I love the forums, I like the majority of the other content on the site and I've met some pretty awesome people here.

Go to the MGS4, SSBB, and Mailbag showdown to see what we mean.

On second thought, maybe not.

In all honesty, most of us, the way I see it, don't hate ZP. Personally I found The Escapist through ZP myself. Our issue is with the 'tards that treat The Escapist as "The Zero Punctuation Fan Forum".
This. Basically, even if you were lured here by ZP, you have to pound in your head that Escapist != ZP. We don't hate ZP, we love it. It's the people who treat Yahtzee as the next best thing since sliced bread we hate don't like.

I don't have a particular problem with ZP's shtick, but what I do have a problem with is people who praise it as genuine criticism. It's comedy pure and simple, and he's not the voice of a 'gaming generation' or wot not.

The thing is though, I think Yahtzee can take himself a bit seriously sometimes so while ZP does remain amusing viewing you can't help but notice a 'holier than thou' undercurrent permeating his videos nowadays. He's basically gone from gamer with an axe to grind to 'new media critic' which is a very dangerous thing.

That's basically because people start to take what he says seriously when ZP is meant to be amusing and full of shots at people for comedic effect. His views are heavily skewed toward hating a particular game rather than begrudgingly accepting (you know, in more than an off-hand comment) a game may have merit.

After all, it's easier to be funny when being mean than being kind.

That being said, it's his shtick, all the power to him. I hate people who take his word to be the word of some kind of demi-god, it's just fucking annoying.

I can understand if you come storming in to the forums yelling that "ZEPE IS THE GREATEST! HE IS SO FUNNY FOR TALKING FAST! HE BASHED HALO! HE IS WIN!" some people might see that as a shark sees chum, but if you stroll in and contribute thoughfully, you'll be accepted.
Lesson: Be like everyone else to get friends.
Ahaha best summary EVER!

I fail to see anything wrong with my title. :p
Is that sarcasm?

EDIT: I am asking because you have been on here a since October and it's a bit of an escapist joke.
I still genuinly don't see anything wrong with it but I'm not the 'Lord of all English'(although sometimes I like to think I am), sometimes I have to step off the high-throne for somebody more read. Explain the error of my ways.

That was sort of my point as well. They pretty get banned but people still search for them like freshmen.

Yes, Zero Punctuation is what brought me ALSO to this site.
I liked his videos for a long time, watched all through them, and then started looking around. I have watched quite a bit of Unforgotten Realms, which I like, one episode of De-Rez, which wasn't horrible, but nothing funny, and then I saw, woah, forums.
I registered, I posted, I am now a man with the amazing post-count of ~600 posts! I am t3h int3rnwh3bz, biatch3zzz.

Seriously though, this is my favourite forum, and now even at some times supercedes Zero Punctuation in terms of "holy-fawk-must-get-to-computer-to-do-*stuff* (in this case, the forum, rather than ZP)"

Step 1. Something new and creative appears on the internet
Step 2. Enjoy it
Step 3. Pass along the word
(Steps 4 and up apply to everything even if 1-3 were not followed)
Step 4. When something becomes popular, hate it, no matter what.
Step 5. Continue to watch even though you hate it
Step 6. Tell people how terrible it is, and argue with all that like it
Step 7. Under NO circumstances may anyone find enjoyment from thing you hate. If even one person does, you've failed.

The problem is the people it attracts, like people from the roosterteeth and GameFAQs forums who only post on the ZP threads to be first post. They're all idiots who treat the Escapist like just another forum site, instead on one where we don't use the words "ive" or "u".
...I came from Gamefaqs, originally. I was even born at the Gfaqs County General Hospital.

well, most peop[le hate ZP because.. pff.. i don't know, they think anything on thier consoles must have been made by god? they're feminists who get annoyed at all the cock jokes?
They thiink it's too popular?.

incidentally, has anybody noticed that the normally fairly childish unforgotten realms is now on a six-year old level of infantile stupidity? ripping off those turtle thngs in that cartoon is not going to make it better than ZP or de-rez.

It's true that realistically Yahtzee pretty much just rips on every game he ever reviews, but I've found that even with games I love, he always brings up valid points that I find myself agreeing with. It's those people who copy his humor and not only quote him, but start speaking like him in general that I can't stand. Grr.

I think it's the people that treat Yahtzee like God - acting like he's all knowing and all powerful when most of the time he's wrong -_-

Holocaust jokes.
I know a few funny ones :(

I pretty much agree with anyone though. I love ZP even when Yahtzee is ripping the living snot out of games that I adore. So the conclusion is:

The people that are hated, are the people that speak low levels of English and only attend the Escapist for ZP to be "First post".

I think there may still be some hope for them though. Maybe when they hang around with the community for a bit, they will realise the general intellectual level and be converted!

Good luck with that. I find most morons to remain... well, morons. I came through ZP myself, but I don't act like a ZP fanboy, I find it funny, cutting, witty, and all that rot, and can forgive the sorta "God complex" that Yahtzee sometimes shows. Most people don't deal with any sort of fame rationally, at least he is managing it.
The best way I can describe why I came here could be.. "Came for Zero Punctuation, stayed for the community."
I find the fact that this place actually has intelligent people, and good mods (Although I sometimes wonder about some bans) that try to KEEP a good community going.
and I agree with the above-said, first posters that say ONLY first post should be crucified upside down. at least make the server space you are using meaningful!

Although there is the nice tendency to have the first 6 posts on Yahtzee's videos banned permanently. Helps weed out the idiots.
Yeah, but some still get through *Cough*Zeke*Cough*

I'm still yet to come across a problem with the community really. But when it happens, I'll take note that everybody said it would happen.
