So a couple of days ago me and my little brother were talking and I caught myself saying "I liked him before he was famous." And I almost had to slap myself for how hipster I sounded. But then I got to thinking about it and I realize I'm actually quite the hipster: I wear flannel shirts, buy indie games, listen to underground music, and enjoy retro things.

So my fellow escapists, what's the most hipster thing you've done/are doing?

Yesterday i wrote an article for the university newspaper arguing that we should watch more foreign language films.

My last sentence reads: "With a bit of digging, watching foreign films, listening to foreign music and playing foreign video games gives you a more varied cultural perspective, allowing you to tap into a vast new world of artistic themes and ideas that those whom are content to be merely spoon fed entertainment by their TV will never experience."

I nearly added [/hipster rant]

Plus, writing it for a newspaper and not a blog is probably more mainstream.

hmm I suppose that in a way, yes I could be considered a hipster for tying vehemently NOT to be a hipster. Although as I pointed out I actually do a fair amount of hipster things, I just don't like the idea of being labeled as such.

and yes that irony was intentional ;D

Nice. Check your totems, everyone.

OT: Hearing people talking about Deus Ex 3 tempts me to regale them with tales of how many times (and how many ways) I completed the first one - back when it was cool, yo.

So far I've resisted, but I don't know how much longer I can hold out.

Really, I wouldn't consider myself a hipster... The music I listen to isn't exactly underground, it's just not mainstream either. The only thing I really do that I would consider hipster is play retro games, i.e. (S)NES and the like, but in my mind, not giving up on a system just because it's not the most high-tech piece of hardware there is anymore, isn't enough to justify one being a 'hipster'

I play quite a few indie games and I have a thing for wearing hats that you don't normally see people wearing, just last week I acquired a top hat and now that the weather has cooled off I'll be wearing it around just because I can.

I'm apparently a hipster.
but i was unaware the term existed (like the internet which dismisssed as nonsense for 18 years, because i was too busy listening to Pink Moon on vinyl in my mud hut whilst wearing vintage military jackets with a copy of Keats collected works grasped firmly in hand as a I sipped a double shot latte with real milk)

I was just under the impression i was just emulating Chris Bailley.
so accidental hipster.

I read a Batman comic book in a starbucks while drinking a frappucino. A little kid was grinning at me the entire time. I gave him my comic when I was done. :p Wasn't getting my flake though...

I also corrected my 90 year old grandma about the name of a 1950's singer...that's pretty bad actually isn't it lol.

Mentioning that I play other games in the Shin Megami Tensei series that aren't Persona to a friend.

Took a bite of pizza before it was cool.
Burned my mouth. :(

OT: I usually just say that I did/heard/listened to something before it became popular.
Prime example: The band Mother Mother. I knew about them waaaaaaaaaaay before they became as big as they are now.
I can be accused of nothing else. Nothing else, I say!

I enjoy pointing out the irony of how people complain about corporations while they blog about it on their iPhones. Is that hipster?

OT: I bought Psychonauts pretty close to launch date. I'm pretty sure that's hipster.

Back when I first joined the site (y'know, back before it sold out), I pretty much was a hipster in my opinions on stuff. It was actually this place that snapped me out of it :D

Yes. :)

OT: I liked playing with blocks before Minecraft made it cool. Lego for life! XD

I say typical hipster phrases ironically. For example, I joke that "I used to like zombies before they were mainstream."

I say that I liked COD before it went mainstream and that NMH is one of the best games ever. And that NMH is the artist to Airplane Over The Sea.
