Seems like nobody here is a fan of chess. I topped you all.

Smart assery aside probably tetris
these, plus I can beat you with Go [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_(game)], and I'll add Pong

Adventure (1979) on the Atari 2600 came out a full ten years before I was even born, but I feel it's still very playable today, despite the very primitive graphics, and the fact the dragons look like demented flamingo's.

It's actually the first game ever made to feature a Zelda like structure, and was possibly the main inspiration for the later Zelda series.
Wow my best friend growing up and I would sometimes go to his grandparents after church for like lunch but then after it we were off the his grandpas game room in one of those really nice kinda downstairs rooms. But anyways we would always play atari and this game in particular was one of our favorites but we never heard of it and didnt know anyone who did and keep in mind this was in the early 90's so no internet just Gamepro and Nintendo power. I am more or less just rambling but seeing you name this game and with a screenshot just gave me a giant rush of awesome memories with my friend and just wanted to share that and say thankyou. But to add to this post I guess the oldest game I get most enjoyment from is seriously a tie between Tetris and Teenage muntant ninja Turtles the arcade game for Nintendo(not that thats my only really liked nintendo or old game just my fav I guess)

The oldest game that I own? The 7th Guest hands down. This game scared the shit out of me as a kid and the puzzles were stuff I never really knew how to play them (I was 3 when it came out and I think I was 4 or 5 when I started playing it)
The music is still my favorite MIDI music around.

Uncharted Waters - the original from 1991. I give it a playthrough every other year or so. Great game (and I have fond memories of finding my mother playing it at 2am back when it first came out).

And some of the classic arcade games of course - those never get old!

System Shock 2 has aged remarkably well for such an old game, still as atmospheric as ever and even frightening at times (damn those monkeys...)

Caesar (1998), not that old but i've had many compatibility issues with older games and they are just not worth solving it.

Funny, before reading the OP I was already going to mention Ultimas 1-6.

I don't know what it is about that game, since I usually have trouble getting into RPGs. But Ultima, despite up there for the most unintuitive PoS I've ever played, still sucked me in. Not to mention the breath of fresh air in the non-emphasis in leveling and gear, and the focus on being the ultimate good guy. You're not mesured in XP so much as in how many snakes you decided to back away from: They only defending their nests afterall.

Me take rock and bash on dirt.
Make fun. Maybe also use stick.

Let's see...

Pong (1972)
Space Invaders (1978)
Asteroids (1979)

This trifecta of arcade classics.
They are so simple of a concept that you can't really improve all that much on them.
You can doll them up (cosmetically) and put them on more efficient platforms, but you're still playing a game that was brought to the table over 30 years ago and has always pretty much played the exact same.
