I'll pretty much play anything. I'm with the pong guy :p

I find 3D games from like the playstation era are the worst to age. Look all cardboardy and blocky.

Art style will win over attempted realism every time which is why I may or may not be currently playing gamecube animal crossing *shifty eyes*

(Wish new leaf would come out already...)

I've been playing some of the NES games I missed the first time round recently and I found Ninja Gaiden, the mario games and several others to still be very playable though I have to admit I can't deal with the sounds anymore so it's all mute and my own music for the lot.

Fallout 2. I'm not saying it's my favorite RPG, but it's damn close. Game looks good still and I love the tactical combat. The quests feel more more meaningful than a lot of modern games.

I've started playing Zork, but as for things I play fairly regularly I think it's got to be Doom for me. I guess I'm just a sucker for the good old FPS. And several newer FPSs, providing they admit they are not and never will be Unreal, Doom or Serious Sam.

Original Mortal Kombat mate. Still love that game, I still enjoy doing the very old 2D pixelated spine rip, or reaching the incredibly cheap sub-bosses and final boss.

The COMPUTER games that most come to mind are Spaceward Ho, an old school space exploration, empire builder which I still play, and 3 in 3, which is possibly the hardest game I've ever played. Some of the later puzzles just seem to be laughing at my inability to solve them. I also enjoy a good game of Minesweeper from time to time.
Console wise, there is only one game I keep coming back to, and that is Crash Team Racing. Not particularly old compared to most games listed, but still some of the best fun you can have on a console.

Hexan and Heretic. Every year I alternate between the two for a couple of weeks. Still a blast every time I play through each.

Galaga. Put over thirty hours into that game.
That... doesn't really sound like that much.
To be fair, inflation over the last year since this thread was made has turned 30 hours into more like 300 hours.

OT: Probably Sonic the Hedgehog from 1991.

I didn't grow up with many of the classics people always talk about, so it's pretty hard for me to go back and get into old Sega or Nintendo games, or obtuse Sierra adventure games or old-school PC RPGs that have battle systems that are clunkier than a '58 Chevy Impala. That said, a lot of them aged a hell of a lot better than most of the games on the Nintendo 64 and OG Playstation.

Yeah, I just noticed after I posted that that this thread started about a year ago.

I'm an old school gamer. I still play stuff like the original Donkey Kong (1981), Super Mario Bros. (1985) and Legend of Zelda (1986). Classic games are classic for a reason and it's generally because they still hold up, unlike GoldenEye (1997). Seriously, go play GoldenEye again. It does not hold up today.

Since I don't own many old games (I usually sell them after I get bored), I'll say Rome: Total War. I actually only got it summer last year, but I fucking loved it, and now own every installement in the series (minus shogun 2, but I'll correct that misstake). I'm also now hyping to the max for Rome 2.

The earliest that I actually have is Link's Awakening DX. That game's pretty fantastic. My favorite of the early titles would be Golden Sun. That game right there is brilliant.

I couldn't get into Syndicate at all, the cruddy UI stopped me from being able to enjoy it. So Planescape: Torment or Theme Park World/Theme Hospital, whatever came first.

Also couldn't really get into FFVII because of the graphics

Let's see..

Wolfenstein 3D (1992)
Doom (1993) and Doom 2 (1994)
Wrecking Crew (1985)
Super Mario Bros. (1985)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (1988 NES version, 1993 SNES version)
Super Mario 64 (1996)
Contra (1987)
Excitebike (1985)

And likely a whole bunch of other games I can still enjoy.

Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device, according to wikipedia its the oldest videogame ever designed, in 1947.
Because "horribly low-res graphics" and "unevolved gameplay mechanics" are OPINIONS and I don't think either of them can stop a good game from being fun.

Also, age isn't necessarily a direct determiner of how good graphics are. There are some beautiful NES games that blow some of the crappy polygon work on the N64 out of the water.
