killzone 3 falling flat by worsening the already mediocre story..
Objection!
KZ2: ISA fights - Helghast Secret Weapon - End.
KZ3: ISA fights - Helghast Power struggle - ISA captures, recaptures bla-blah, - More Helghast power struggle - New Secret weapon - End.

MvC3, Mass Effec 2 (PS3 ver) and Dead Space 2 all seem pretty "better than meh" to me. But that's just me.

Give it a bit more time, the year is still young. For the moment, I think that Bulletstorm is quite funny and Dragon Age 2 is really not that bad.
The last time I enjoyed a pokemon game as much as white was when I played silver and I loved silver.

There are many good games that will be released in this year. Portal 2 will be released soon, the Duke will finally come, Battlefield 3 looks just amazing, ME3 I don't think I have to say anythink about that and Skyrim looks really promising.
So it's looking quite good for this year in my opinion, at least better than last year.

Ya seriously I think Portal 2 is gonna make this year. Even Valve is saying this is one of their better games and THAT'S really saying something
Gabe Newell didn't say it's one of their better games, he said it's THE best game they ever made (yes better than hl2) and that really has to mean something.

I agree but 2011 still looks bright. Uncharted 3 Infamous 2 Dark Souls Arkham City Last Guardian. I still have high hopes 2010 was a let down especially last fall.
Exactly. It's only March. we still got 9 more months to make awesome games.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 only lasted a few days. The lack of modes could really change someones view of the game and the broken, spammer-friendly multiplayer is awful.

The only games I've gotten so far are Dead Space 2 and Bulletstorm. The other games I'll be getting for sure are Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, Gears Of War 3, and Uncharted 3; as far as I can remember. Mortal Kombat and Portal 2 come out on the same day; I have a difficult choice on my hands.

Shogun 2 is fine for me so far, good reviews all round, and I've not heard any serious complaints about it.
It is seriously fucking expensive, too expensive for me to drop cash on it yet.
I, uh, I haven't bought any 2011 major studio releases yet. Nothing of interest so far (except Shogun 2). It is only a couple of days until NFS: Shift 2 is released though, I might pick that up, and I have pre-ordered but not paid for The Witcher 2 on GOG. I had hopes for Homefront, but it seems THQ have let me down after all.

DA2 is good, better writing than DA:O so far (I'm about five hours in). Not sure why people got so offended by the combat system. It's barely different from the first one and even then it wasn't the most important part of the game.

Bulletstorm is also good.

DOW2: Retribution was good, although the campaign was a little less fleshed-out than in Chaos Rising (on the other hand, there were SIX OF THEM).

Phantom Brave is good too. [small]Even though this is the third time it's been released.[/small]

So far, a pretty good year. Maybe you're just depressed.

[sub]Or are you seriously saying that a game isn't 'good' unless it has 90 or above on Metacritic? Because that would just be sad.[/sub]

The best is yet to come. I'm really looking forward to Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim. I suspect New Vegas will receive new DLC as well so this should be a great year for gaming.

I think part of the problem is so entrenched in your mind, and the minds of many others, that you don't even realize it. Re-read your sentence.

or any other game that had serious potential for a 9/10 but got like an 8 or less.

8 out of 10 is NOT a bad score. The problem isn't that games are "meh", is that expectations have gone through the roof and are now firmly on the planet Pluto (yes, I said planet, eat that science). If a game doesn't get a perfect 10 out of 10, half the market won't even look at it. If it gets a 9 out of 10, the remaining half will look at it, but tear it apart because they are looking for the reason that one point was deducted. Anything below a 9 is considered a failure in the view of many gamers, which simply isn't the case. This is the reason publishers fear trying knew things and stick with proven series until they are beaten into the ground. It's rather sad.

That being said, all the games I'm looking forward to are: F.E.A.R. 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, Mass Effect 3, Gears of War 3, and Portal 2. I think the term hypocrite might apply slightly here. :)

I'm sorta in the same boat as the OP. A lot of this year's early high profile releases haven't done much for me.

Still got Portal 2, Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Bioshock on the way, though. All four look pretty damn amazing.

This is the best year in gaming since 2006...
Why? Skyrim. (Oblivion game out in 06, sence pattern)
Oh also the new Mortal Kombat game comes out next month, and though many of you may disagree, I am super excited for Dynasty Warriors 7 next week.

I've only bought one game so far this year, DA2, and loved it. So this year's great so far. I've got Brink to look forward too, and Skyrim to dream about. Should be awesome.
