What's up with the games this year?

Back to OP. Skyrim, Old Republic and even Crysis 2. Battlefield 3 is also coming out.

It is possible to recognize the good/awesome qualities of a product without being fond of it yourself. I too found Dead Space 2 to be a great game, but I was disappointed in it because the story did not give me all that I wanted.

Technically it was a strikingly pretty game at times, with some awesome sequences. But the story left me wanting even if the experience was cool.

From Dust, Mortal Kombat, Duke Nukem Forever, Arkham City, Portal 2, Deus Ex 3, more that I've probably forgotten.

This is an awesome year. Movies however have fuck all coming out.

It won't quite be as awesome as 2007 (Mass Effect, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3 /drool), but this year is shaping up very well I think.

I'll rephrase it. I meant to say that they received wide critical acclaim, but I didn't care for them myself. Awesome was too vague a word.

I remain optimistic, but you are right to a certain degree. Many games which could have done a lot better and should have done a lot better came out in the beginning months of this year. One of the big issues is the publishers pushing the developers to finish games quickly instead of giving them enough time to actually properly finish the game and get rid of the bugs and issues.

Fair enough. I've been looking forward to DA2, GoW3, ME3, The Witcher 2 and Arkham City, so still a big year for me in gaming

You should know this by now: They hold all/most of the good games back until after summer and before the holidays, they always do.

There are several good ones coming out at the end of the year such as: Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Gears 3, Uncharted 3... and several others that escape me at the moment... At least Infamous 2 is coming out in June.

I finished up Marvel v Capcom 3 in a couple of days. Dragon Age 2 kept me occupied until recently when I got Dragon Age: Ultimate collection. Pokemon Black is great but I've been neglecting it lately because I imported White last year...second playthroughs can be kind of 'meh'.

I called Homefront. I wasn't expecting anything great from Dead Space 2. I haven't tried anything new on the PS3 this year. I can't wait for Duke Nukem though x3

I've been playing DA:2, and I love it. I think it's pretty damn good. It does have a few issues, but it is very well written. So I don't think that games have been "meh". At least not in every case.
