When I first saw the "legion of polite gamers" or something like that on tf2 when I first started playing I thought "man what a group of f'n pansies" but after being online for awhile on both xbox and pc and learned why they established the group. Because people are stupid. plain and simple, with the internet comes anonymity that is used as a shield. If your reported you can simply make a new profile.

"Hey, does your mom know you're talking like that."

Feel free to use it.
Thank you!

OT: OP, that's just the internet for you. I know it's been said before, but I'll say it again; it does seem to be more competitive games like Call of Duty that have the worst players in.

To be honest, it sucks that there are so many idiots online but its not going to change. As for those people you met that were rude about the Americans, they were probably just lil chavs, (look up the meaning on Urban dictionary as I don't think it is used in America) and do not think that it is because you are American that they started on you, if I had gone on and I had lived in a different part of the UK they would have found something to start on to, they are just closed minded, unthoughtful kids.

As for the UK v USA thing, I think most of the time it just starts off as friendly banter and often just goes to far. Me (being English) and my mates (being from the States) often have banter, and just shrug it off, we would never say anything about 9/11 though, mainly because people from pretty much every nation in the world worked there, and you would have to be ignorant to assume that the Attack purely affected America.

i know this is a useless post but im afraid i cant sympathise with you, ciz im canadian and most people dont try and piss off canadians, canadian stereotypes are actually pretty funny.
also when people do try to provoke me i just often play along by replying to them in as much of stereotypical candian way as i can such as seein 'aboot' or 'eh' more often then we actually do and rambling on about hockey and toques. it often keeps them quiet for a long time after cuz they dont have a way of tryna provoke me anymore wen there initial harassment doesnt work.

I want to go on there now, just so I can confuse them.

Welcome to the Internet. Those with thin skins do not last long.
"thick skins" is an undrstatement. "Skins the strength of a Rhino King's hide" would be nearer the mark.
Really?

(face palm). So funny when people get the stereotypes wrong.

In my experience of living in England for the past five years, English people tend to be easily more hostile than other countries. There are some nice English people, but they're quite hard to find amidst the patriotic xenophobes.

Ha ha please don't get our dry wit confused with just being rude. it is similar I know and are sarcasm is a lot more understated than a lot of places i have been but we are not All BNP supporting nut jobs. But I agree we come across less friendly than in a lot of places.

I know that feel bro.

I got yelled at for killing someone in TDM blops a few hours ago when its the fucking point of the game. Might just be the general demographic of the game and console. That and Call of Duty can't raise 8-year-olds.

I wonder what it is with Xbox Live in general; not to go all PC gaming master race on you guys, but I've never seen a PC game with a community as bad as the average console game. If I had to guess why, I'd say it's the fact that dedicated servers are generally well moderated, whereas Xbox Live and the PSN are barely moderated at all. People tend to be a bit calmer when you can get kicked out of the game for being an asshole, and if they aren't, well, they get banned, and the other players still don't have to deal with them.
One word to you Minecraft multiplayer

OT: Psn can get pretty bad at times

I've never played Minecraft, but isn't the problem with that game's multiplayer that the server rules are often incomprehensible to newcomers, leading to people getting kicked from the server too quickly? I admit that can be a problem, but it's done to keep griefers out, not to be cruel to anybody. It's a far cry from CoD style trash talk.

I'm in Australia and I haven't really encountered much here. I'll just call it luck. And the choice of games maybe, I've never played CoD:BO online.

The American/UK/European thing is natural. If you're American, you're hated. Virtually every non-American country hates America, and by extension, all of it's citizens. It took me years of untraining to get over it myself (I am of European descent), and I still get a visceral anti-American urge every now and then, but I know it's misplaced. When I actually travelled there, I was taken aback at how polite and friendly most people were.
I never understood hate like that, I just dont have it in me to hate a group for something as stupid as nationality, its like hating someone based on skin color or something retarded like that

I've never really played on Xbox live but is it really as bad as people make it out? I don't recall the last time I had anything like this happen on steam.

I don't know, I think it depends on the game: maybe I am just lucky, but when I play fightings on my PS3, or play TF2, I don't hear/read anything too offensive. Sure sometimes there are some random guys who say/send dirt and you can ALWAYS hear something like: "Holy shit, we are being had!", but thats managable and sometimes helps the mood.
Never played CoD, so it's just theory of mine.
I'm also lucky on PSN as well then and I did play COD. Not huge amounts but well over 30 odd hours on multi and not once did I experience any trash talking or nasty insults. The kids that were there got muted more for the high pitched whiny voices than anything. Several of them were really quite well spoken.

Can't say the same about Xbox Live which is the main reason I don't use it.

I've never had that problem playing on PSN, but that's because I've only played online about 4 times and in those times only about a third of the people had headsets and the talk was fairly brief.
