Wasn't aware that they added items to the prepurchase. Even so, it doesn't stop the game from being factually free to play.
Ohh, i called BS on the "The early access thing on the website is only there for people who are really desperate" part, not the rest.

Also mang, meepo... the idea is fun but in a game with two teams at the same skill, the one with meepo will lose a very high number of times. Meepo is a ridiculously hard to play toon that is extremely weak against a fair number of other heroes and offers nothing others don't do better, the only way to play it is for the lulz and praying your skillz are the best that match by a large margin or that your team carries you.

And that might be the best point for LoL over DotA, the champions might be WAY more standarized but there is not a single one that has such a low winrate as meepo.

I like everyone having passives, DOTA lacks that I believe. I enjoy all the gimmicky ones like Kog'Maw having the "fuck you, i'm taking you with me" passive.
I don't think thats accurate at all. In fact veng is the perfect example of this, in the current metagame at very high levels she is used almost only for her passive usually alongside a pusher team. On general almost all carries have a passive ability, sometimes quite overpowered like time lock from faceless void.

"LoL has the worst playerbase in the history of ever" -some dudes

You guys haven't been playing multiplayer games for long have you? Sorry if this comes of as a condescending sneer but you can do far worse the the LoL playerbase.

As for the OP's question I think someone already answered it. There's a tendency to take shots at the big guy, just look at WoW or America e.g

I don't hate LoL. I used to play it. I don't care for the desperate claims that they're equally challenging, equally strategic competitive-level games. They aren't. But otherwise I have no issues with LoL or its fandom.

i never got into lol because the game doesn't allow you to learn it properly but i think that most people just hate the community waaaaaaaay more than the actual game.

DOTA 2 is more complex than LoL. Some people may prefer it for this reason but it doesn't mean it's better, a lot of people do tend to think that more complex = better though so they then get mad that LoL is more popular. Likewise LoL players who feel the same way get annoyed that DOTA 2 is more complex and so start hating it.

That and both games have awful communities. I can't speak for the DOTA community but I hear it's jst as bad as the LoL one and I can assure you that the LoL one is really damn bad.

The thing that gets to me is when people say LoL takes no skill because of flash. If you think flash makes the game that easy then go play a game without dying once since you can always just flash out of danger right?

Ugh, fuck Shaco. Just... Fuck him. With his stupid stealth teleports... I have a good idea! Let's put someone into the game who can counterjungle extremely well and he has zero negative consequences if he gets discovered! A decent Shaco is annoying. A good Shaco is a nightmare.
I usually don't mind Shaco but I love it when I see him on the enemy team while im playing Veigar like I was the other day. Oh Hi Shaco, I notice you are pretty damn squishy as you come to gank me. ME! The character with some of the highest burst in the game, I am going to 2 shot you with my ult and Q now before stunning the enemy and walking off noe mwahahahahh!

Innovation:
Dota 2: Copy and past from Dota (WC3), which is to be expected because the game is essentially a sequel/ remake.
LoL: In terms of lore they are good and creative, but if you're talking about abilities, most are just copy and pasted Dota abilities.

For example:
Ammu Bandage Toss - Clockwerk Grapple
Ammu Despair - Necro Aura
Ammu Ult - Treant Ult
>> These are just a few from one of the first champs on the list and you can do this for almost every champ in the game (especially the older ones), and doesn't even include iconic abilities that are blatantly copied like Karthus Ult and Blitz Hook.
Well, there's only so many abilities that you can think of that are completely unique. That, and as someone mentioned, a lot of Riot's original team were apart of DOTA, so of course they're going to pull in some of their favorites. Though, I'd like to add they at least swap the kits up. I'm about 90% sure there's not a hero from LoL that's a complete copy/paste of a DOTA hero.

Of course, if there is one, I'd like to know, so if i ever do play DOTA2 I'll have someone familiar.
Your right on them mixing up kits, I was just trying to show that RIOT isn't some creative powerhouse where abilities are concerned. I can't think of anyone with an identical kit, but ashe and drow play pretty much the same (carry), so she might be familiar. Honestly though a lot of times getting used to the heroes isn't so bad, its just getting used to the different mechanics.

(Disclaimer: most of my knowledge on LoL is from posts/articles comparing and contrasting it with Dota 2, so I may be a complete fuckhead in this post.)

It stems from the fact that they are both the main players in a newborn genre who are trying to use it for vastly different purposes. Dota (1 and 2 so just assume that) is very much made with the competitive scene as the primary concern, with everything being designed around how it balances out when the very best go head to head. LoL, to my knowledge, is a more casual game that's co-opted for the competitive scene which Riot Games mostly funds themselves. No Denying, the lane setup is set in stone, first blood takes significantly longer to happen, no need to worry about Rune Control, team fights are much more a case of "Throw everything at everyone" than timing and focus fire, and everyone has a free Blink on a 5 minute cooldown as a get out of jail free card (Because it's too damn good to use any other spells). The lane situation alone is pretty drastic, with me being able to think of at least 3 or 4 ways for a Dota 2 team to have the Hard Lane be perfectly viable given enough player skill.

That and I'm almost certain it's partially to do with the revenue models. LoL makes you pay for or unlock Heroes and has a free rotation, which has the consequence of making you start the game at a slow enough pace that you're unlikely to be overwhelmed by hero choices. Dota 2, what with Valve being rich as balls, said "Fuck that, all heroes free forever because having to unlock key parts to the metagame is silly." They get their money through all the hats, keys and stuff with Steam very much picking up any slack. And what did that take away from the learning experience? Pretty much nothing, because you're so dumbstruck by all the available options you make sure to ask who the beginner ones are before you embarrass yourself.

And also things like this can lead to Dota 2 fans getting a feeling of self-satisfaction for the game, in a "No way that'd happen in LoL" kind of way, regardless of if it actually could or not:

The thing with Shaco is that whenever he's on the enemy team I am the one jungling 100% of the damn time. I can't sit next to my turret in lane all "lol sucks to be that guy" I have to deal with the Death Bushes, I have deal with never having a red buff and I have to deal with the jungle version of Singed!

And yeah, anyone who seriously thinks Flash makes the entire game Easy Mode hasn't played it enough/has never played it at all. That or they're the type who plays uber defensively so their Flash is always up.

It's on a 300 second cooldown now. Yeah people having a 300 second short range blink is clearly a get out of jail free card. It's not like the game has any characters with in-built teleports to chase through it right?

Oh.

I can't say the same for DOTA 2 as I haven't played it, and truthfully nor do I want to (so this post is probably null and void), however....

My dislike for LoL is that it really isn't my cup of tea, despite giving a good go of it only to be flamed constantly for "being a troll" and "a bad player" when I am trying to learn the game and have no idea about what people are talking about in their LoL terminology.

Truth be told, pissing people off without knowing as to why was probably the most enjoyable aspect of my entire gaming experience with LoL.

I never would have gotten into it without the help of my friends. Its a very rough entry, but it can be fun once you start to get the hang of it... and actually, playing with friends in pre-made is much better than playing with random people.

I see someone has already used the "they hate it because it's popular" bullshit excuse.

You'll find that a lot of people that dislike LoL do so because it has one of the worst documented online communities of any game.
...implying that Dota 2's community isn't equally shitty.

Try visiting the official dota forums at playdota.com. The very act of speaking your mind will get you flamed like no other.

Actually, since someone mentioned him, does DOTA have anyone like Singed? I really do love me some Singed.

Anyway, I tried some HoN at some point and it just felt... off. Or maybe it was just that I'm just spoiled to being able to only having to worry about harassing and farming, not having to deny and all that other stuff too. That, and I bloody hate the terrain on HoN's map, I kept trying to create a lil jungle path through the trees and I kept running into cliff things >.<" That, and I had a hard time telling what was what, and I'm not used to a single stun lasting 3+ seconds. Pretty sure they have those, right?

Though Blacksmith is fun as hell :D

Then why does almost everyone grab flash? I don't care how much it was nerfed, a free flash that doesn't take up an item slot and doesn't require a gold investment is invaluable. There are very few situations where I would even consider NOT taking flash, not just because of it's defensive use but because it also acts as a quick positioning spell that can suddenly put me in range to land my entire spell combo on someone. Flash is a no brainer choice, and as soon as Riot understands that, the sooner they can stick it on an item and get over this dumb idea of making it a summoner spell in the first place.
Yeah it's OP, no doubt about it. It doesn't make the ENTIRE GAME automatically Easy Mode for the entire community though. That should be obvious. You can fail your Flash as well. You could miss a wall, Flash into your ult that still wasn't in range so you look like an idiot.

Or you could Flash away from an Akali... Yeah enjoy your extra 2 seconds of life. You need an immediate double jump to get out of Akali, even then it's still dodgy.

Really, stick it on an item? That sounds like something Riot would fuck up balance wise. Probably give it too much AP or too low a cooldown.

Oh yeah, watch all the AD Carries pick up that item early on and be jumping around the place like Ezreal on steroids. Still AD Carries got nerfed mobility wise so fair's fair. I think Summoners would be a whole lot worse if lack of Flash freed up a slot anyway.

Ignite + Exhaust all day, Teleport ganks every single game, Exhaust and Heal, Barrier and Heal = invincible early game AD Carry. Smite + Exhaust would be the new Smite + Flash. There would be so many broken combos if people weren't bound to Flash so closely. Maybe that might be a good thing? I have no idea. People can't live with Flash yet they can't live without it...

I can't even decide if I like the damn spell still. All I know is that I NEED it..

Because people love Valve, and by extension the newest thing to come out, enough that they must devalue the existing thing to back up what they think is the newest and bestest thing ever?

I would personally disagree with people saying DotA 2 is more complex, but then I wouldn't argue that LoL is either. Depth is 95% how closely you look into something, and both games have enough of it that it's essentially bottomless..with there always being more you could have learned or could have done. Saying LoL is "casual" is a massively relative (and personally quite shallow) statement , like arguing that it's slightly more comfortable to be run over by a saloon car than a land rover...
