Isn't this the whole point of video games in the first place?

I'll go with the Touhou games. Challenging, fun and help me keep focus.
Can't agree with that, when I play Silent Hill 2 I don't play it because it conforts me in the least.

At the moment I play tf2 to unwind, I put on some Hardcore or drum and Bass and zip across the map shooting people, not to get a high necassary I just like the flow so much ^^

Smash bros. (in any form) is always there to provide respite midway through whatever game is kicking my ass. Jigglypuff makes an amazing punching bag.

Armored Core 2, with Infinite Boost/Armor/Ammunition + No Weight Limit, courtesy of Action Replay. Sometimes, I just want to sit down and build a indestructible, all-powerful walking engine of destruction without having to worry about the technical limitations of such an undertaking.

It's quite therapeutic.

L4D2. Go into versus with a friend or two, proceed to kick the ever loving crap out of the other team until they ragequit, and enjoy. It's soothing to know I'm good enough to piss other people off. :p

I still love my old copy of Breath of Fire III, I imported it from Europe for my PSP (for some reason the PSP port was never released here in the states) and that has been even better.

GTA: San Andreas. It's the only GTA game I have, (Shocking, right!?) but it's still perfect for blowing off steam. A nice 100 MPH drive down the road going the wrong way, some cop killing, bike-jacking, car-chases, perfect to calm yourself down.

I mean what game do you like to play after a hard day to unwind? And/or is there a game that you hardly ever play but it is comforting that you know it's there but won't play for long lengths of time?

For me my hard day game is L4D the mindless massacre of zombies helps me unwind.
Also a game I like to know I have is FFVII, I just like to know I can go back and play a game that I loved.(still hasn't got old yet.)
My comfort game would be currently Day of Defeat source or Disgaea 3.
And the game I probably will never go back to as awesome as it was (but frustrating) is Shadow of the Colossus. I'm going to keep it though.

Hmm... For me it would probably be Torchlight. Man that game is addictive.
I found it too similar to Diablo II for my tastes. I finished it once, but now that I've finished it... I'm not sure if I'll ever want to go back to it, unless they bring out the supposed MMO version. Don't get me wrong, great game, but I only wanted to finish it once.

Although I havn't played it in a while.

Hitman: Blood Money. It's open to as much game style as you feel like, either wanton psychotic slaughter, or executing the perfect assassination with no other fatalities beside the main target.
