has to be timesplitters: future perfect, played story coop with every one of my friends and never got bored, also four way multiplayer was just epic. Am buying a new PS2 specifically so I can play it again, as my PS2 broke ages ago. But seriously, this game is sex in game form.

Ocarina of Time, hands down. No game will ever be able to match the memories I have of this game. It was the biggest adventure game ever made when it first came out, and it was just so fun to play that I never wanted to stop. To this date, no game has ever come close to hitting the high levels of enjoyment I got out of OoT.
I agree with you but I have found a close contestant for the SPRPG throne:
Aquaria by independant developer Bit Blot.
This game features brilliant design, sound and artwork, empathic characters, brilliant voice acting, plot twists that knock you off your feet, romance and singlehandedly the fact that it is fucking hard to find a scenery in this game that is not woth a screenshot(!) makes it (, in my opinion,) the best game of this decade, the same way that OoT was the best in the last decade.

My favorite game, coming with the award "best game you've never heard of", is Beyond Good and Evil. Hooray for sequels [http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34508.html], finally (eventually?).

Although Serious Sam: Second Encounter, Thief 2 and the Soul Reaver series are close behind. Act Raiser 2 was awesome back in the day, any Mechwarrior makes my day, and really, who doesn't like Baldurs Gate 2?

OK, you know what, lets just be honest here...pretty much every game that I buy is a favorite. Thats why I bought it dammit!

From a diverse shortlist of Rome Total War, Hitman:Blood Money and Toejam and Earl, I would have to go for T&E. One of the maddest, funniest and most original gaming experiences I have ever had. Rocket skates and mad dentists? There's not many games that have stuck in my memory so vividly. A true classic. And available on the Wii Store apparently.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

I cried when it ended, so I played it through again.

And still do. My SNES controller has teethmarks through the ages from when I get annoyed by the mistakes I still make.

Another conversation had recently. I have never played chronotrigger. I intend to pick it up for the DS, so soon as I find the damn thing in stores, grrr...

But Chronotrigger was released the same time as Secret of Evermore. Which is, infact, my favorite game. SoE would have gotten a LOT more attention, were it not out at the same time as chronotrigger, which is really unfortunate. Great characters, funny dialogue, fun story.

But other than that, the last game I played that I played online and enjoyed tremendously? Unreal Championship 2 AMAZING game, inovative, LOVED the melee system. We need a more melee centric game out there for multiplayer, a good group fisticuffs throw down is so much more satisfying and visceral than sniping people across the map. I want a sequel of THAT!

Jade Empire.

I love RPGs, I love fighting games, I love strategy, and I love beat-em ups. But for one game to have all 4 was a dream come true. I can't WAIT for the sequel.

I have to say my all time favourite is Pokemon Red/Blue. If you look at Pokemon and think "why is this so popular?" you probably missed out on the buzz when it first came out.
YES!!!!! Pokemon got crap after gold and silver. Wow, I'm going to go and hunt for my old gameboy and play on it right now.

Tough to choose, but I think Zone of Enders 2. I would've liked a Japanese voice option though, plus there's some major slowdown on the level where you have to defend that army of LEV's, but it's still an awesome game.

Oh, I loved that game. that level where you have to take out the 5 or so flying battleships was just pure epic. it really sucks you don't get the 0-shift till late in the game, cause I would have loved to use it for that level

Even though I hardly play it anymore because I've beaten it absolutely to death and beaten the corpse into a fine mulch, the reason I was able to do that was because it was so transcendently awesome.

The game? Rome: Total War.

I'm gonna have to say a lot of Cactus [http://www.cactus-soft.co.nr/]'s games, especially Ad Nauseum 2, are high up on my list.

It's pretty hard to name favorite games though. I mean, it really can depend a lot on my mood. I think someone mentioned Rock Band earlier, and that certainly is my favorite party game. Nothing better than doing a few tunes with some friends.

For solo games, in the realms of creepy games, I'd have to list either Barrow Hill, Scratches: Director's Cut, Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos [http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm] (aka John DeFoe quadrology), or BioShock. In the realm of less creepy games, the entire Myst series is simply great.

There are some games I enjoy playing with other people watching (or vice versa), and The Curse of Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle are both my favorites for this play style. The games are fun even to watch.

As for multiplayer games, there actually aren't many I found enjoyable (which is a shame cause I do enjoy multiplayer games). I'd say Super Smash Brothers Melee is my favorite though, since my brother and I engaging in Gentleman Duels between Marth and Roy is such a challenge. Another good one is Jazz Jackrabbit 2, despite being bug-riddled, which combines platforming and shooting really well. Great for co-op or competitive play, that one. For something more arcady, Bombastic is a riot.

People. They have infinite replay value, don't break easily, and there are literally billions of them, so if you do break one, mentally or physically, you can just find another.
And the difficulty curve is less of a curve and more of a straight line, because they're just so easy to play with.
Oh yeah, and this. This is true.

Yeah, that was my favorite level too. Going up behind the ships and destroying those cores with the vector cannon? So awesome.

Devil May Cry
For its time, it was absolutely amazing. It did something that no other slasher before it managed to do: it made the action rifuckingdiculously stylish. It was the game that introduced the act of launching an enemy in the air and stalling it with sheets of bullets.
