Old School here so I'll say Lufia 2, awesome RPG that came out on the SNES not by Square or Enix at the time mind you!

Though Square-Enix has the company now and made a reboot for the DS which was Good I reccomend checking it out.

Evil Genius. A strategy game on the PC that came out in 2004(I think), is largely unknown (or at least unmentioned), and the only time I heard it mentioned on the Escapist was a few seconds in Yahtzee's Overlord II review (0:16)
That game was awesome! The interrogation of the super agents was pretty damn funny. Shame I couldn't get rid of the super agent for S.A.B.R.E. (can't remember his name), that dude opened the door to my Freak cage and they all got out =(.

Also, I never did get the hang of having a working hotel on the island to distract attention from the entrance to my base.

You are doing it wrong. It's not the story. It's the gameplay. Granted the Jackal's ideas were kind of nifty( though totally taken from heart of darkness/Apocalypse now) but he was the only interesting character.
Yeah, but the gameplay's fucked too. The map is completely dotted by formulaic checkpoints that ALWAYS attack you for no apparent reason, the companions are right twats (AI wise, not that they're not utterly terrible pieces of characters as well), there isn't much to do outside missions (at which point you really need to have a half decent story cause there's no point in free roaming). But I get what you mean, some of the gameplay's really fun, as I said, I absolutely adored playing a sniper in an open world environment and everything, it's just that I'd mess with the gameplay as much as, if not more so, than the story.

As someone has already mentioned, 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors. An awesome puzzle game with multiple endings and a story (which consists of about half the game) that can be summed up in two words: Plot Twist.

The gamecube game Gotcha Force. The toy/ mech graphy look great consider it was on the Gamecube and the gameplay was pure fun!
I guess the DS game Infinite Space is maybe under rated (not too sure since it is a Platinum game which their games are all good), well it's not like I had seen a lot of reviews for it.

Medal of Honor: Airborne

This is my favorite WWII shooter. I loved how the game encoraged you to try new weapons, it may not be good at first, but the more kills you get with them, it starts racking up XP for upgrades. Main case in point: The BAR, at first, it goes through ammo like no other, and it is useless until level 3, because no ammo can be found for it before, but after the first upgrade, it reduces the recoil, and you can actually hit things!

I loved the campaign, and the online was fun, but it only had like 200 people total on at max.

I still love it.

You can pick it up on PC for like 6 bucks on disk, but I have it on Xbox, but I'm pretty sure they are the same.

Altar Interactive's "Original War".

Ok, lemme pitch it to you:
It's an RTS, but with a difference. Rather than starting out with a builder and going from there, you start out with a bunch of dudes (and dudettes). Each dude can do pretty much anything depending on what class he is (there are 5 for each side, Soldiers, Engineers, Scientists, Mechanics and Special Soldiers). The kicker is, you can't train new men from a miracle barracks building, if a soldier dies in the field, he's gone forever.

Every character has their own skillset, which can develop as the game goes on. This means that you'll grow to value each member of your team (especially in the single player mode, where there are a lot of interesting characters!), and a single death can be something that your faction can't easily recover from.

Add to this what has to be the original storyline and setting you'll ever see in an RTS, and you've got to wonder why so few people have played this game...

There's a demo floating around somewhere, if you want to give it a try. (I'd strongly recommend it) The full game can be brought on www.sprocketidea.com for about a fiver.
