Well... World of Goo. It's... perfect...
And I quite enjoyed the indieness of Darwinia.
And Super Meat Boy...
Dwarf Fortress, Braid and Cortex Command are worth mentioning too.
Also, Minecraft is quite good (not as good as World of Goo in some aspects though).

Dwarf Fortress is and probably always will be the best indie game to me. There's really nothing else like it. It gives you this rich, deep, and diverse world every time you play. You can customize it, tweak it in a huge variety of ways, and the game will usually find a way to make it work. And then when you play the game itself you have such a massive number of ways to go about doing things. Really the only limit is your own imagination and patience for the game. And then there's the modding. I'm an idiot who can't program to save his life, but Dwarf Fortress is so mod friendly that even I can bring my ideas to life in it. It's limitless game that is constantly improving and expanding. Not trying to make it sound flawless, just focusing on the reasons I love it so much.

On the subject of Minecraft, I feel like calling it an indie game is kind of odd at this point. While it is techniaclly an indie game it has far more funding and publicity than most major games on the market.

World of Goo is also another great indie game. It's such a charming and entertaining experience for only 10 bucks. I stll play it sometimes just to unwind. Wish it was longer though, or had a sequel. Most tragic thing about that game is that it had so many great ideas and concepts for puzzles that only got used a handful of times. It kept things fresh but a lot more could have been done with it.

If I'm correct, World of Goo won "The Most Underapreciated Game of the Year" award somewhere.
I bought my copy in a kiosk. In a cardboard box. For around $2,50. AND I WOULD HAVE PAID THOUSAND TIMES AS MUCH.

SO MUCH WIN! I'm guessing you hacked your inventory though?

OT: I have to say Minecraft it is just amazing. Braid is pretty fun too.
Yeah, I used INV Edit, imagine how long it would take to get all the wool I used from sheep
I know getting enough for my house's carpet was torturous. And then it may have caught fire...

I only bought the game becuase I watched an LP that made me see how cool it was. I think it suffers mainly from having almost no publicity. I'm glad I boguht it on steam instead of in that "pay what yoy want" sale though. After playing it, I would've felt like an ass buying this game for only a penny.

Is Amnesia: The Dark Descent an indie game? Because that was pretty damn good.
Good News:Amnesia is an indie game!

OT: My favorite Indie Game would have to either be Super Meat Boy,Cave Story,or Minecraft. It's a three way tie for me because I never fully played Amnesia.

Valve doesn't have a separate entity that Publishes their games. They publish their own games. Hence it's an Indie game company.

For anyone who likes tower defense, or just Plants vs Zombies, I'd suggest Defense Grid, it's got a drier sense of humour to it, but it's a far better game, imo. They also gave away free DLC and have paid DLC on Steam.

If you don't want to pay anything, try Cursed Treasure, or the amazing Gemcraft Labyrinth.

All over on Kongregate, and Gemcraft Labyrinth is just a huge and interesting tower def game.

Well, sort of. EA publishes all the retail copies while the digital steam copy is published by Valve.

They're sort of half-indie.

Team Fortress 2. There, I blew everyone out of the water.
dude, I'm pretty sure Valve isn't an indie developer
Well it is. It's both the developer and publisher of it's games so that makes it, technically, an indie studio.

I would say minecraft but the fact is minecraft is not a game It is Life!
soo my favorite indie games would be Nimbus: the game looks and sounds beatiful and the gameplay is both unique challenging and fun.
And The letter V six times, better known as VVVVVV

I love those games so much I'm working on fan 3D animations on them.

I know. I wont be starting any fires within 100 blocks from my little creation. I once burned down a huge skull made of wool on a pirate island when I decided to have fires in the eyes. It burned to the ground including every tree on the island... that made me sad
