well alot of people do alot of women are always complaining about the fashion industry nad supermodles setting unrealistic beauty standards

people complain so much that they banned thin models in some countries lol
I really despise grammar Nazis, and I know my writing isn't perfect, but you should at the very least add some punctuation to your sentences. I had to read over the first part of your sentence three times, because it says, "alot of people do alot of women", and I knew you didn't mean that a lot <(yes, a lot is two words) of people had sex with a lot of women, but without punctuation that's how I read it.

As for the original question: I never think about models; what is there to think about? They have managed to learn how to dress themselves, and how walk, woopteefuckingdoo! Also, most of them look like skinny aliens, or tall crack whores.

Interesting point. Well, I'd argue that if it's a matter of artistic expression, then wouldn't they want their work to be shared and experienced by the public? Unlike portraits and sculptures which are static forms of art, clothes/film/games etc. actually do have practical purposes, they are things which can be mass produced and be experienced and admired by everyday individuals. As it stands, if the people attending a runway are essentially acting as a focus group, then a) why have the elaborate and highly pricy photo session for something that's incomplete and b) that sounds a lot more like it's just designed to ingratiate themselves with the industry big wigs rather than serve as an outlet for their artistic expression/personal vision and what not. And as for the supermodels, if they're meant to be largely ignored and essentailly seen as 'hangers for the clothes' in the OP's words then why is any attention afforded to them? What's the deal with whole celebrity culture surrounding them? I'm not trying to seem hostile, I just don't understand the fascination. *shrugs*

I have no idea what to make of this thread. I can't tell if the OP is trolling or... what. This is just such a bizarre topic to find on a gaming site.

OT: I've never really thought much about supermodels. I have no idea what denotes a "supermodel" as opposed to a regular one. I also fail to understand the emphasis placed on them. The designer makes the clothes (I assume for art's sake, seeing as wearing these kinds of clothes as casual or even formal wear would be ludicrous), and yet we have supermodels that are generally more well-regarded by the public. They don't do anything. It's like idolizing the nails in the wall holding up a painting. I don't follow.

Don't get me wrong, I'd treat them with the respect I'd treat any other human being, but I certainly wouldn't laud their 'talents'.

I believe Edna Mode from The Incredibles put it best:

"'Supermodels,' hah! Nothing 'super' about them! Spoiled, stupid little stick figures with poofy lips that only think about themselves."

When I see the emaciated figures of most supermodels nowadays, my first thought isn't "she's hot." Instead it's "get that girl a cheeseburger, pronto!"
i should have known the response i would get on a site full of nerds lol
If you don't like the idea of a site full of "nerds" you could always find another forum. I'm sure there's fashion forum out there you could go to.

because some where along the line models became household names and celebrities before the 90s there was a time when many people didnt generally know the names of any supermodels. then during the 90s models were all over tv,commercials, etc and they had fashion shows that the general public could watch for themselves wehich turned these girls into mini celebrity and increased there paychecks ten folds

these days we dont really have real models most models are actresses and singers therefore really is no supermodels

i remeber when you couldnt recognize the face on msot magazines because they were models now days every face on a magazine is a well know actress or singer

Even using the word "talent" in regards to modeling is an exaggeration. Being able to wear clothing, and walk is not a talent. Nevertheless just as you said I would treat them with the same respect which I offer any other human being.

Supermodels are not as attractive as they would have us believe. I think the main reason of this is because they are chosen and judged mostly by homosexual men and heterosexual women. Because of this they do not have natural attractiveness but are images of the superficial rivalry between many women.
this is not necessarily true people keep forgetting that marilyn monroe and alot of the oldschool hollywood beauties were mdoels back in the day and these women were pciked out by msotly straight males

they had bigger breast, curvy hips, and nice shapes somewhere along the line that all went to shit and it wasnt that recent even the 90s models had hips and was generally not to far off from the everyday women with the exception that they was in shape.

Supermodels? Waste of a life, but as long as no one tries to force me to look at their derpy outfits or give them any of my money I couldn't care less.

Really, the fashion industry as a whole has nothing to do with reality, the general human experience, nor does it in anyway contribute to the world.

So I couldn't care less.

I seem bitter because I don't regard walking as a talent? I think your trying to rationalize a belief by projecting falsity's onto those that would disagree with it. Now, in regards to your claim that not everyone can be a model, I disagree. If you have mastered the art of walking, and putting on clothes you can be a model, as no talent is required. Now, before you say "well i say you cant no look like model can" I'll say this: Maybe, maybe not, but a model can't really take credit for the features they were born with, or paid a doctor to give them. That argument still in no way suggests any kind of talent.

See, that I can understand a lot more. If you're using somebody that's already famous for their achievements outside of fashion then that draws in a wider audience and greater incentive for people to try and emulate them over someone they won't recognise. And for the record, I'm not bitter towards supermodels/the whole fashion industry thingy, I'm simply indifferent. =/ Hence I don't really get what the appeal is/was with supermodels or why they got the kind of veneration they got, but hey, whatever floats your boat I suppose.

Supermodels don't really do anything for me, similar to mannequins. They don't look anything like anyone I've ever known in real life, so there's nothing I can mentally connect them to in my brain. Not only that, but they generally don't do many nude photo shoots, which as we all know are readily available on the internet. I see their purpose, I just personally gain nothing from their existence.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
They need to eat some sammiches, as I see them now they are that generic type of beautiful that is really just inoffensive but not really that attractive.

again that is not true but like i said your a nerd and i do not mean that as an insult. nerds usually think different than most of the generally population :)

the word talent is subjective in itself because honestly theres alot of things people do in this world that really requires not much talent and generally you would only considered it talented if you was interested or liked that particular type of work

same can be said about video games and gamers because honestly who sits around and plays video games all day ?? nad what use to the designers of video games have to society

studies show that video games, television etc have made children lazy over the years when i was growing up the kids had social lives now all they do is sit in the house nad play video gmaes all day
