Pretty sure Final Fantasy 8 fits the bill for me. As a matter of tradition, I start a new save on it every year in the week between Christmas and New Year and play through until I get distracted by something else. This year will be the 12th time. I just love it.

I guess Oblivion could also go in this category, I still go back to it every so often despite having sunk several hundred hours into it across the 360 and PC versions.

Fable: The Lost Chapters. Even though I've tried out all possible character arch-types and done pretty much everything else. I just love being there.

Timesplitters (I am suprised no one said it yet, its a quite popular series in this site)
+1

Also:

Dyanasty Warriors 6: Empires, because thinking is over-rated.
Resident Evil 4 - because, ganados, humans, or zombies, shooting things while trying to get box A to Point X will always be fun.
Radiata Stories - because RPGs don't need to be complicated to be fun...I just wish it had a better free roam, and YES I'm awaiting a sequel.

My favourite choice of game does change quite a lot, but your favourite game isn't necessarily your 'pet' game, so maybe I don't have one : /

But maybe Team Fortress 2, I always go back to that game, and do often talk to friends about the new set of hats to come out.

Pokémon. I never cease my thoughts about it and my friends hate me for my knowledge (and slight elitist attitude) of it.

My friend picked up Soul Silver and told me that he was gonna make a "Dog team" using Suicune, Entei, Raiku, Arcanine, Houndoom, and Typhlosion. I laughed at him and he got pissed at me.

Its not my fault his team isn't allowed competitively, he picked some pokémon with horrid stats, and that he has no tank to protect himself when the going gets tough. The only criticism of mine that was my fault is that I find the use of starter pokémon a sign of weakness, despite how good they may actually be.

But, come on, I'm allowed to be elitist about this one game when everything he tries to say to me is showing how he is right in some way about something and I am wrong. Right?

Crash Bandicoot 2, the third game was alright but it's the second game that I will always remember.

Too bad they never made any other games in that series, because they did not, not in that series.
There NEVER were any sequels to these games.

Any of my Touhou games...
I'm fine with people insulting my video games. Except for Touhou. Fastest damn way to get on my bad side...for I shall not budge on my view.

without a second thought I would say no more heroes 1+2, I can't even tell you why I love these games.

maybe I just strongly relate to Travis Touchdown, and that would be worrying.

Grand Theft Auto IV - Liberty City is just such an amazing technical achievement that I love just endlessly going around it, driving, shooting people, dicking about. I will defend the game from haters on technical grounds alone if I can't defend the gameplay...which is awesome and I don't get people who bash it but eh.
I agree fully! The attention to detail in Liberty City is crazy, and I love the way cars handle and people react to bullets. It's one of the most satisfying games ever made in my opinion. I still play it to this day. In fact, I just bought EFLC on the PC a week ago when it was on sale. GTA is one of my favourite franchises, and I fucking love IV! I don't know how people can say it sucks so much.

Yay, someone who agrees with me. Finally ^_^

Plus, running people over in that game never gets old. I am in no way psychotically inclined ¬_¬

Final Fantasy VII. The core of my nostalgia, and my favorite story of all time. I don't care that the graphics are less than stellar or that the combat gets a little repetitive, it's still the best of the best.
