Wait, what?

Could you edit your post and include proper spelling, grammar, capital letters and full-stops as I for one have no idea what point you are attempting to convey.

Unofficially, Eleven.

Officially, Twelve.

Why? FF11 is a WoW-clone.

FF12 is a one player WoW-clone.

Personally, they should have stopped at FF9; that was the swansong to me. That game was basically saying "Remember how awesome it was before we got that stupid cyberpunk fetish? Remember when Final Fantasy was about cool stuff like magic, airships and cross-dressing Pirate Captains? Remember when the hero was a thief, not an angsty Emo? If you do, then this game is for you. Thanks for playing."

Admittedly X was the second FF game I ever played (the first being I), and I liked it, but the fetish costume dress-up extravaganza that was X-2 so thoroughly killed the series for me that I don't think I can stomach any more.

it's never truly died,I just disown it for awhile. Like after that FF7 complation bullshit. I absoulutly loved FF4/6 and enjoyed 12 though i lent it to a cousin and haven't seen it since. I'll definitly pick up XIII just because sony fanboys feel the scorn that nintendo fans felt when FF6 went to PS1 instead of N64.

I only played I through IX cause I never got around to buying a PS2, so I can't really give any opinion on the latest entries in the series.
I do have to say that I didn't like VII and VIII too much, with VI and IX being my favorites, so it never really "died" until now.

XII was painful for me, and I didn't even bother finishing it.... And if this seemingly interminable wait for XIII just continues to drag on and on and on, that may be the final nail in the coffin for me.

What used to be a Day 1 purchase for me may end up being relegated to "Wait until it hits 'Greatest Hits' price"

I started at X and loved it. It's funny really, because now X defines the series for me. VII was great, but I do think the crossover to the third dimension a little overrated.
When the core mechanic of the battle system is basically just selecting a move from a list, I think that story and cinematics have to really shine. The music is icing on the cake and, in the case of Uematsu, it's about 4cm thick and covered with chocolate chips the size of ping pong balls. That said, I think XII was a little too epic for my liking...
Incidentally, there's only so many various incarnations of goblins and elves and dwarves I can stand before the stereotypical western style RPG's starts to grate on my nerves. At least JRPG's are trying something different. Swatting bandits and trolls with a steadily blunting sword leaves little to the imagination, even if it is a fantasy. Where else can you attack enemies with a stuffed toy cactus?

i personally feel that FFX2 is what killed it for me because it started down the road of 'one player MMO'

How is FFX-2 a solo MMO?

Never liked it. Bought VII back in 199..um...whenever it came out because all the playstation mags were raving about it and I had liked Secret of Mana on the SNES. Played it for a while before I came to the conclusion that I wasn't actually enjoying the gameplay or the plot and didn't like any of the characters either, or the visual style. I have avoided JRPG's ever since.

I still enjoy the series and enjoy the DS remakes. However, I never played FF12 and the main reason against it is simply, lack of time for a game of that length.

I think the Tales of... series picked up my favorite JRPG series spot after FF6 was last stop on the Final Fantasy train for me (since Tales of Phantasia came after FF6).. yeah the stories and characters aren't as good, but they're not horrible for the most part (and sometimes have their own charm and appeal) but the combat and equipment and such are just so fun.

I remember when ToP got dejap translated.. but all the voiceovers were still Japanese.. that opening battle with Dhaos.. it was all "Moonspeak Moonspeak Moonspeak.. INDIGNATION! .. Uwaah!!!!!".. I was just thinking "I like this already!"
