When did Final Fantasy die for you?

Eh... its difficult to say really. Until recently I would have said that 8 was my absolute favourite. Then I saw "the Spooney One"'s blasting criticism of it. And actually, in retrospect I pretty much agree with a lot of what he said. Its just that the whole RPG thing was quite new to me at the time.

My brother had played FF7 and I'd watched him play some of it, but I remember thinking "this looks kindve stupid but also cool". I mean I remember asking my brother about it and the plot didn't seem to make any sense and he didn't really seem to know what was going on either, but it seemed like a cool game.

So, I bought the next one (8) and I kind've got into it, mainly because I was impressed by the cutscenes they'd thrown in there -- I mean I remember them being really impressive at the time. So yeah I played till the last disk or so, and then got stuck.

So, then the next one (9) came out and suddenley it had changed into a much more cartoonish style game. But underneath it was *basically* the same -- in fact it when playing it, I liked it and after getting over the shock of the main character being some kindve of rat guy thingy you get to really like it.

At some point someone I worked with on a summer job gave me FF6 on an NES emulator? (naughty) so I played that, and I enjoyed that too -- the graphics were very cartoony as you would expect for that era but charming and it was entertaining.

So I bought 10 and played it though again till I got stuck on the end boss. It did remind me quite a lot of 8, visually, so it had a sort of nostalgia factor going on there, and it was pretty entertaining. Basically, you notice some similarities running through these games, but I cant remember much of the plots to any of them anymore -- they all last for so long and get pretty confusing so after a while you forget stuff -- so I guess it doesn't matter really.

So, basically it died for me when they released an online game. I wanted to buy it, but I didn't have an internet connection at the time and I didn't want to get into online mmorpg-style games. So then I sort of fell out of the loop. That's when it died for me.

N.B I did notice they've rereleased FF6 on the DS so I might consider getting one to play that.

I've only played FFX and been told to steer clear of FFXII by.. well everyone I know.
So for me it hasn't died because FFX is awesome.
Can't wait for FFXIII! :)

It hasn't died for me yet to be honest, although the whole "I'm a guy, but you'd probably mistake me for either a 12 year old girl or a cheap hooker" is starting to bug me. Hopefully they won't have that in FF-XIII.

It died for me...at the second game.
Sorry, but if there's a second game, it's not exactly a "final fantasy", now is it?
Truth in advertising, people... >.>

Man, a lot of people seemed to not like 8 and 9. I loved both of them.

The one I hated was 10. The story was powerfully lame and I didn't like any of the characters. The summon system was pretty cool though.

They seemed to slightly redeem themselves with 12, but it's too little too late IMO. 13 had better be the best thing since FF 2 if they are going to win me back.

So when did you stop liking the Final Fantasy series if you ever liked it at all?

for me it started sliding downhill at 9 and went dead at 10. I recently got FF crisis core hoping that would spark some mild interest in the FF series but alas it failed horribly >.<
Downhill at 9, HOW DARE YOU GOOD SIR. THAT IS BLASPHEMY. YOU SHALL BE HANGED.

(sorry for my outburst...)
9 was the last good one. I just say started going downhill cause they did my most hated thing in a game. after you fight who you think is the final boss they bring some character that you have never even heard of or was mentioned to fight. but again 9 was the last good one ^^
The last boss made perfect sense to me but that's because I understand why he was there cause I've played the game many many times and dissected the story completely.

On topic:
FFIX Amazing, best in the series
FFX Bad
FFX-2 Really Bad
FFXI OH DEAR GOD NO!!!(Worst game I've ever played)
FFXII+ I refuse to play

To be more specific, the part where you find out
that you're all childhood friends and had just forgotten.

That was quite possibly the moment where a little part of me died, and was replaced by hatred for the whole franchise.

I keep buying them, but at the moment, the only three games that I own and don't really enjoy are FFX, X-2, and XII. I want to have faith in XIII since the series generated a few of my favorite games ever, but...grrr. I feel like a traitor.
I've got XII there ready to play, as soon as I finally finish Kingdom Hearts (I have to level up heaps though first, stupid final few bosses). I'll have to see what I think of it, I didn't mind X... dragged on a bit though.
To be honest, the battle system in XII was not all that bad, but the game as a whole still seemed to lack the magic of the older ones (for me, IX was the last that I really enjoyed.) I think XII was an improvement over the X and X-2. Hope you enjoy it.

It hasn't for me. Then again I seem to have reasonable standards *shrugs* FF8 wasn't bad, could've done without them shoehorning Rinoa down my throat, but other than that, it was fine. FF7 is a solid game, rabid fanbase aside, and FF9's storytelling is wonderful. FFX and XII were pretty good and they each brought something new to the table, which was nice.

So no, it hasn't died for me and I will play FFXIII, XIII:Versus and probably XIII:Agito (PSP) when it comes out. I do like how they keep things the same but different at the same time.

I can has Dissidia nao?

Ehhhh, that wasn't bad. I hated the "OMG I SUDDENLY FEEL FOR YOU NOW DESPITE THE FACT YOU'RE A SELFISH LITTLE TWIT!" love story.. or when Seifer suddenly killed Odin. I'm not sure what the hell that was supposed to accomplish, but it was still okay.
