As do I....

Well I guess for me they're still going more or less. Mainly because I refuse to dive in the deluge of shit that is current-gen gaming. Too many generic armored space-marines for me. We've traded gameplay and storyline in for graphics. Once developers get over the fact they can HDR the fuck out of everything, and actually get back to making a lengthy, story-driven, fun game, then I'll get into current-gen gaming.

This "plague" as you call it won't stop, because there will always be a market for casual games.
Oh, and the same amount of "hardcore" games still come out. The two hardly effect eachother.

and with i would disagree since i check out at least 10-15 games i havent played a month from older to newest and id like to say hardcore is a relative term these days
(having a fiance working at g-stop helps lol)

No, I don't remember those days, because they never existed. Every console ever made has always had a disproportionate number of dull, unbalanced, or just plain bad games for every good game made.

I really don't know what you just said. I'm not even a grammar nazi, but dude, c'mon.
I'll respond to this
hardcore is a relative term these days
Of course. It's always been a relative term. Notice, I put hardcore in inverted commas, because I wouldn't describe non-casual games like that.

casual gaming is not a "plague" that is somehow going to turn hardcore games into shambling, zombie-like mutants.

For every Cooking Mama there is a Final Fantasy; for every Bookworm, there is a Halo.

And the kicker is, a good chunk of these "casual" games can actually be pretty damn fun (some, not all). I have had Bejeweled Twist stuck in my DS for weeks, but i can literally not stop playing it.

This perception of a casual "plague" is akin to have snobbish and rude; how can we expect the world around us to accept gaming as a legitimate entertainment medium if there is nothing to build on?

gaming has already been accepted and dont get me wrong it is a double edged sword it can be good but not as long as companies are fighting to put out hundreds of titles with minimal work,no creativity, and straight rips from other games...maybe its the old school talking but when i drop 70 bucks on a game i expect to get my monies worth and frankly not happening(and i have went through some of the biggest game copying years of gaming lol

Search for better games. I've yet to buy a game that hasn't lasted me at least 5 hours on the first playthrough.

Also, stop looking at Wii Shovelware games.

They've stopped that. Now it's the generic, grizzled soldiers who die in a few shots and regenerate health. AT LEAST SHIELDS WERE AN EXCUSE FOR HEALTH REGEN! Where did this magical FLESH healing bullshit come from?

The sort of people that use terms 'hardcore' and 'casual' to define gamers are actually the "plague" of gaming.

Your the sort of person that when they don't like a game they just fall back on the default" but its been dumbed down" argument.

Well, that's another thing, is that more often than not, the more "casual" games are usually (not always, but usually) priced lower than your blockbuster hardcore titles, especially when they're released as iPhone apps.

i mentioned Bejeweled Twist; that only cost me $15, and it's one of the most entertaining games i've played in a while. It mixes strategy and intensity while still being accessible to a wider audience. it even includes a "zen" mode, which is basically "no fail."

I do agree, however, that companies have GOT TO STOP RELEASING SO MUCH SHOVELWARE. They are literally going to kill the market. the idea is to try and embrace new people into the gaming fold, and with so much crap being released for a quick buck, these new people will quickly get turned off.

Well, the last current generation games I've bought (Batman: Arkham Asylum & Demon's Souls), have both been excellent, so I don't really understand what you are talking about.

and dont get me wrong i think this could be a good thing but if it keeps going the way it is the games i have always loved are gonna be hashed out to the corporate slop that is everywhere, just asking for a few good, thought out games, with good gameplay, story and originality they just seem to be getting thinner as time goes on

This 'plague' won't stop. Gaming is pretty mainstream.

What games are you talking about though? The games that took tiny design teams that just had to know simple code, and experience as a DM to write the story for?

Also, just because the volume of games rolling out has skyrocketed doesn't mean there aren't still great games coming out. You just need to keep an eye out for them, and not buy into hype.

I dunno, I wasn't a gamer in the '80s, but I was one int he '90s and ever since. I think games, the good ones, are muuuuuuuuuuch better now than they ever were. Don't get me wrong though I still have nostalgic-flashbacks too.
