I always remap all keys to fit me.
However having Use/Sprint/Cover as the same button in Mass Effect 2 really bugs me.

This past week it betrayed me for the first time. I had been playing Borderlands a lot, and then decided to play some Spyro the Dragon. I accidentally held Select thinking a map would show up for one of the levels. -_-" I remember doing that in Darksiders, too. The freakin' Watcher showed up and stated more obvious things. I thought he was supposed to be helpful?

Then after that I went into Fallout 3 and mixed up the firing controls and the reload.

One the 360. I played Modern Warfare 2 for a months then switched to Left 4 Dead 2 then was utter fail when I realized that I was meleeing with the dual pistols.

On the PS3. I played Uncharted 2 after a Batman: Arkham Asylum binge and I couldn't platform properly.

Edit: Also, I have fallout 3 on the ps3. I can't figure out what game it is. But I keep pressing O to reload.

Not really. The only time I've really had that happen was when I first played Halo 3. Every time I tried to activate something or board a vehicle I'd waste whatever equipment I happened to have at that particular moment.

Switching between Oblivion and Fallout 3 gives me fits because in the former it's press E to jump and Space to interact with things and in the latter it's exactly the opposite. Inadvertent theft when I meant to jump up onto something or exposing my position with an ill-advised jump when I meant to steal/assassinate/interact with something...drives me buggy!

Especially Mass Effect. I keep logging grenades when I want to reload, then remember there is no reload.
The "Back" button reloads in one of your games? :S

OT: I have this problem in the first F.E.A.R. I use left trigger to zoom in on the enemy, but in F.E.A.R. it throw grenades, which makes me go "Oh shiiii-", followed by a dash to safety.

Who hasn't accidently pressed the quick save button instead of the quick load? Or vice versa. I hate it when, even to this day, some game companies will still assign the two buttons right next to each other.

Nope. R is the default for grenades in Mass Effect but it's usually the reload button in other games.

This happened to me back when I primarily played Halo 3 and CoD 4, but not today. Also the controls between Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 were similiar so this didn't occur at that time either.

I switched those in Oblivion; it always felt more comfortable to jump with space.

I've never had too much trouble switching back and forth between games, though. The games I play, it's more the inventory and menu keys that are different. Left-click is still attack.

I hated switching between games on my PS1. On some games the X button was the magic button, on others it was the O button. This led to accidentally bringing up a lot of menus or backing out of choices as opposed to continuing. It got really annoying, especially in real-time battles!

Of course, it just now occurred to me that I could just go in there and remap the damn buttons.

More on PC than consoles to be honest. I'll become twitchy, start pressing the wrong buttons and then people start dying. Although it'll be my own team-mates instead of the enemy.

Yea try playing DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3, then simply Budokai 3 AND THEN L4D2 with a 360 controller.

A friend of mine was trying to "power up" in L4D2, by mistake of course but funny none the less.

Not too often, but usually when playing sequels with slightly different controls. Most recent example was when I played ME1 and ME2 at the same time. I kept switching back and forth between them and kept confusing controls from both. Thankfully, ME1 started bugging out on me, so I gave up and focused on ME2, settling that dispute.

Another example are the Total War games. It's easy to get tangled up in the various interface layouts they had over the years...

It takes me a good 4 hours to get my muscle memory back to a useful degree when I play ninja gaiden II on harder difficulty after leaving it to develop dust in my game case. Unless you have reaction times and multitasking capacity less than or equal to 0.12secs per action when playing Master Ninja difficulty, you will be FUCKED UP.
